So, some backstory here:

My 73 has a 91 front end swap. I hate the grill on there so I bought a 1 piece "phantom" grill that fits 81-87 trucks. Mostly for the 1 piece aspect to pull it off easier.

Obviously, the grill I bought doesn't fit on the 91 front end. The lights are the real problem so I am curious if I can just swap the lights from an 87 into my 91 grill.

If that won't work, does anyone know of some universal headlights and parking/turn signal lights that are low profile that I could wire in?

Thanks,
John

You might be able to leave the condenser. Depends on how it's mounted and where the hoses are routed.

I have a complete 87 core if you need parts.

few guys and some carefull planning to hold stuff and spread stuff out and then slide core direct out the front and other direct in then bolt it all back up .

Not helpful, but if you do the swap, I'd be interested in the 91 headlight harnesses as I can't seem to find any new that aren't ridiculously priced.

junk yard hunting for g-series vans same nose . cut out pig tails and solder / crimp them in to your harness. its all I do .

and the van grill center section only can be used also on the trucks . just need to move the 5 top mounting screw holes on the grill or core support.

Good to know thanks, I've never seen this style headlight connector before. And I don't want to shell out the cash for the conversion lights quite yet.

Thread jack over.

better option I have read is solder wires direct to the headlights and add in quick conectors to plug in from there on the 89-91 cat eye quad lights .

the stock conectors kind of suck .

also 88-up body style used them for a few years till the factory went composit lights .

Man, this is more of a project than i was hoping for but i guess it will force me to do some fender repairs i have been holding off on.

Im in the exact same boat as you are on this! I had no/damaged grill for my 90 which is the same as yours and i was given the phantom grill so i just cut out the front support to sink the lights in farther! it is super getto and i cant adjust my light direction at all really but i plan on converting to an older style anyway when i can. Just going to buy a new support (there like 100 buck new i found) and put nice HID lights for better lighting. The only thing holding me up is the harness and stuff not sure what to get and i want it to look clean and not hacked in.

Keep me posted on what you figure out or choose to do and when i get to mine ill do the same although im no where near ready to tackle that chore.

Well, thanks to ReadyMix I have all the parts needed for an 87 core support swap so thats what I am gonna do. I got a new motor coming at the end of August so I'll just do everything at once. More work than I wanted but its the right way to do it.

FYI I read online that the headlight harness just unplugs from the firewall connector and low and behold it actually did. That made my day so if you go to a junkyard for the parts, that section of the harness doesn't even need to be cut.

but the firewall plug is diffrent shape from the single or old quad light over your cat eye quad light .

it wont plug direct in the firewall plug spot.
