87 mix and match chevy build...It's back to life!

What a charlie foxtrot... I'm at a loss now. I've replaced the rotors and pads. Replaced the wheel bearings and seals torque'd everything to spec and I didn't have any leftover nuts or bolts. I still have that dam passenger side death wobble. This sucks smurf balls! It's not a bent rim or messed up tire as I have had all 4 tires on the right front. Either all 4 tires/rims are bent/shot or I'm missing something. Nothing looked bent or off kilter when I tore the right front side down to the backing plate. I've tightened the ubolts, shackle bolts, TRE bolts, drag links, pitman arm nuts. It's had an alignment less than 10 miles ago. The lug nuts are torque'd down. What else is there? This is driving me bats*** crazy. It's even driving the voices in my head crazy. I've searched and searched and I'm more confused than when I found the problem out. Anyone have any idea's, thoughts, advice, BFH? The only two things I haven't done are put the sway bar back on and get new tires. I think I have to resort to buying tires but it's going to be awhile for that. I don't know what else to do....

Find a set of craigslist cheapies that are radials and try it before spending money on good tires

I will be throwing the tires on my c20 to the k20 to see if that makes a difference but there like 245's. I'm betting she still kicks me in the balls though...

Update -

Well I'm still stuck on trying to find the problem with the death wobble because I now have to replace at least one more rocker arm nut on the pass side. I thought it was a bad exhaust gasket but it's not. What annoys me the most is I just replaced all the rocker arm nuts on that side not even a month ago. So now I'm saving up to get some poly locks and then some rims and tires so I can finish trying to fix the DW issue. I just can't get ahead with this dam thing. It either hates me or I'm cursed with bad luck with trucks.

When you had it aligned, what is the toe in set at? My book said 0 degrees. I found 0.2 degrees on both sides works the best. Does not seem to eat tires and the DW goes away.

Update -

Well I just ordered some more rocker arm nuts and some ARP adjusters so hopefully this weekend I can fire it back up.

As far as the DW goes I think it might be a possible broken leaf pack center bolt. I will know when I tear the front end completely apart. I just need some decent weather so I can start the tear down.

On a side note, I'm also starting to collect all the parts I need for a auto to stick swap. I just don"t know when I'll do it. I have the pedals and trans, I need a tcase and maybe an adapter.

Finally, aren't they pretty?

My mechanic replaced all the rocker arm nuts with the new permaloc nuts from ARP. They worked perfectly and the best part was they didn't hit the bottom of the valve covers. We swapped them out put it all back together and she fired! Took her to the gas station and she seems to run fine. I still have to buy the calibration kit for the carb, fix an annoying squeaky exhaust leak and fix the death wobble, but SHE RUNS! :woot::woot:

My mechanic asked me how many miles I had on the motor. He laughed when i said about 7 times around the block.:D

Dam you know your a broke a$$ when you have to use the search function to find your build thread....:doah:

Anyways I've changed my plans once again and have started to collect more parts for another conversion.

Plans this time are to swap in a sm465 32 spline/208 that I just picked up for 200 bucks, even has the xmember and drive shafts. I'll be keeping the 468 in there for now but I have been thinking about swapping back to the old 350tbi. I havent made up my mind fully as to switching back to the tbi. Either way that auto tranny is coming out and I'll also be dropping the th350 from my work truck and converting that to 465 as well. I'm sick and tired of auto's. I'm sick and tired of auto's. I'm sick and tired of auto's!

Once i get the 465/208 in there, then ill spend a month or so "wheeling" before i swap the tranny and tcase to a 10 spline sm 465 with a twinsticked 205 that I'll be buying from 70jimmy.

As far as the DW goes I think I've pinned it down to something in the front axle. More specifically I think the tie rod and ends could be the culprit. Either way I'll be ordering the ORD 1.5" tie rod and ends when I have the money.

At this point I'll be swapping out parts on the front axle for new ones until I can get rid of the DW. I'm confident I'll get it fixed this spring.

It is running and somewhat driving as of right now. I still need to fix an annoying exhaust header leak on the pass side. Other than a few small things I think its coming along pretty good.

No no no do not swap the motor out.. Unless you wanna swap for my 408 :D

I think you would be better off with the 350 TBI. Why go through the work of swapping an SM465 in, and then taking it back our for another one?

One setup is the 32 spline sm465 with a 208. I'm allready running a 208 so I just need the tranny. The twinstick 205 that I'm buying is going to get attached to another 10 spline 465 that I have laying around. I'll be swapping the tranny's out because I like to punish myself and I wanna feel the difference in gearing for myself.

Well nothing really new to update except that I messed up my neck/skull pretty good so other than collecting parts I'm stuck on the couch until I heal.

At this point the only thing im doing is trying to complete my auto to manuel swap for Susie the yellow one.

Ouch man! I know how that goes, lots of heat pad and then ice packs, switching back and forth. Oh and pain killers are nice too :)
