Wish you were closer, I would take the rolling chassis..
You wouldn't want the rusty chassis... the cancer attacks the frame and chassis parts just as much as the sheet metal up there.

very few chassis i have seen in this area have been as adversely effected as sheetmetal. mostly the ones that are have lived the lives of plow and salt trucks.

yep very true, the 81 is the same way, everything is rusted, its pretty bad here, usally always wet all year round polus salt plus everything else, its so bad that evne spring hanger brackets rot all way through

however.. in about a third of th cases, chassies are ok and just surface rust or less, but it all depends on how the vehicle was driven/parked etc
if it was a 365 day a year outdoor vehicle then it had no chance from the beginning amd would be totally rusted and ate out

it is really random, hell sometimes theres still some coating on the frame rails, and other times the frame is so rotted you can see through it, hell i have seen frame rail on a pickup bust in half under front of bed due to rot, a local guy was driving a truck out on 5th St Rd near here and the truck(an old chevy pickup) broke in half on him while he was going through an s-curve,.

this was a couple years back,

thanks

hehe, yes not as bad as the sheet metal, but still too rusty for me. How many rust free trucks have you had to compare the chassis too? It's really hard to recommend someone in a rust free state to get anything from the midwest... Every bolt, nut, washer on the chassis of my '79 K10 will come off with minimum effort and not once will I break one off because of corrosion. You can't say that about anything that spent it's life in the midwest (I grew up there and have owned many rusty old trucks). The frames are just thick enough that they rust doesn't completely go thru the frame yet and can be sandblasted and repainted... but the frames I scrap out here still have factory paint on them and I can't give them away :doah:
