'88 Blazer 2016 Changes. Not many....Yea.

Thanks guys. I really know what everyone is saying when I hear, "It's never done". There always is something I want to do to it. But, this year I want to drive it alot more, and get my wheel chair lift working like it's suppose to, find new seats with shoulder belts for the rear, and new carpet....Sh*t there I go agian:haha:. Fixing the lift has to happen for sure this year and it better not take long. I need a good electrical/circuit board Buddy to keep me from bypassing steps to get in and out of my truck:whistle:.

Tony, it was great to meet you finally....the burb is a fantastic ride, and the conversion looked top rate!
the Blazer is looking good!
Hope you can make it up to Silver Lake this summer for Adam's hillbilly fest!

2ND that!!

Got the truck out yesterday (first time since early Nov.) and it felt good to drive it again. I notice when driving slow if I turn the wheel to the left I hear a clunk just when it's starting to turn. This happens consistently. Does anyone have suggestions on what's going on? It's Not in four wheel drive and hubs are unlocked, and I don't notice it in the steering, but I can hear it.:dunno:

I think he may have meant the frame behind the box.. that's exactly what mine did when the frame cracked.. it "pops" as the box moves the metal past the other... sometimes ya don't see it cuz it's behind the box...

could be in the springs tho.. snapped center pin or the like, look at the spring and bushings closely to see if there's any wear spots and such...

does it handle ok still, does it feel like it wanders going down the road?

I hope it's not my frame. I have the weld on and bolt steering box brace, but the frame is cut and rebuilt to lower the floor where my wheelchair sits. Would yours pop if you were parked and turned the wheels?

My front spring pin looks OK but the springs look pretty wore. I have a zero rate in front with the axle moved forward, also.

Dave, The truck drives unbelievable well straight and true and hardly any play in the steering. I have an XJ saft on, too.

Thanks for the input any help is appreciated:thumb:

Sounds like a helper under neath while you turn the wheel would zero in on it
Glad to hear your "braced" up too!

Yeah, I want to have as much knowledge as I can before I ask someone else to look underneath. I really don't notice it when it's parked and that should be more stress on things. I'm going to try and get a good picture of the steering pump and springs. The wear pads on the springs are falling out do you think that could be my issue?

I would think spring issues would be noticeable turning either direction and even being cycled driving straight, but have you tried re-torqueing the U bolts?
Did this just start happening this year?
Could be something like core support mounting as well, perhaps fender braces between fenders and core support? Inner fender mounting to the firewall?

Here's some pictures. Sorry about the lighting but I hope there good enough to so you can give me an opinion on them.

I'm thinking this isn't good.

2nd

there's your movement/wear... might be time for new springs unfortunately...

We'll I'm actually hoping it was a spring issue and not a frame problem. Any suggestions on where I can get a good set of front springs?

stock replacements I'm guessing? can't say, I've ever bought stock ride height leafs..

:haha: Yea, I should've figured. It is pretty stock in front except for the zero rates and axle location. Should I replace all four considering the age? Deuling, You ordered new springs for your truck didn't? Where they custom? I'm wonder if I could order rears and eliminate the blocks and leveling back there and front with the pins located so my axle is in the same location and height without the zero rates?

If you do a search on here a few spring makers have been mentioned for stock replacement springs.

Is it necessary to replace all four or just the fronts? Searching for spring ideas is a nightmare, but I'll keep looking?:D

Right now I have stock springs with a zero rate in front / stock springs and 3" block on the drivers side and 1.75" block on the passenger side. I'm pretty happy with the looks. I wonder what a good replacement for that would be?
Stock replacement should get some of the hieght back, but how much?

Thanks for the input.:waytogo:
