Hi, yall, first post here. My husband's fanatical about his Chevy Blazer but I don't really know much about it from a repair standpoint. I've been driving it while he's out of town and noticed that the low beams aren't working. He loves to work on it but I'm not sure if that extends to the lights (he does more auto body stuff). I guess I just wanted to check with other fellas who like to work in the garage if it's a "no-no" to take the truck into a professional if my husband's usually fixing it. I could just ask him but I don't want to bother him about it unless I absolutely have to. Thanks!

Anyway, after looking over any overt wiring/fuse stuff, I'd suspect the dimmer switch at the base of the steering column.

No, none of that would need professional help. I'd tackle any of it, and I'm a klutz.

High beams are still working fine. Spoke to Mike (my husband) last night and he said it sounded like something minor but if it was stressing me out, I could just take it to a mechanic. I checked the dimmer and it doesn't seem to be that. I'll probably bring it by a garage this weekend because I really don't know my way around cars. But what do you think something like this could be? I am only asking because I don't want a mechanic to reel me in and my husband's in and out of meeting constantly when he's on his trips so he may be unreachable if I've got a question from the garage. I feel like a lighting issue like this can't get too exaggerated even if they wanted to unless they blamed it on an electrical failure or something.

I'd still suspect the dimmer switch. To clarify, not the dimmer for the dash lights, but the switch when you click the turn signal stalk.

Oh, you mean the dimmer switch may be defective as opposed to accidentally switched low?

Yeah. Assuming all the wires are hooked up, that's where I would look. Not super easy to get to though.

Anyone else can feel free to tell me if I'm full of crap though. lol.

All 4 high beams work? I'd first suspect the low beam filaments are just bad. Common, since the high beams are used so much less than the lows.

You could hook 12V directly to the light and see if it works to find out if the filament(s) are bad.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago, I have brighter bulbs and aftermarket lenses so I have my high and low beams running through a relay for each. My low beam relay failed so I lost low beams. Popped in a new relay and all was well.

Thanks so much for the tips, everyone! I'm probably going to just take it to a garage since my husband won't be back until next week and he's the one that fixes it up, but it helps to have an idea of what could be wrong going into the situation. I think it's possible it could be anyone of the things you guys mentioned, so thanks!

Morning, all! I just wanted to thank everyone again on this forum for sharing information so I didn't have to go into a situation with a mechanic "unarmed" LOL I took it the nearest mechanic here in Hollywood and sure enough, within just a few minutes, they said it was the relay. Since I came here beforehand, I had a lot of confidence in hearing that. Thanks again everyone who answered because it really helped me out. I also talked to my husband and he's going to be showing me some basics with the Blazer so I can repair little things if I need to.

Good to hear that it was something simple and were honest about it. Just out of curiosity, how long did it take them to diagnose/repair and how much did they charge?

It took a little over an hour but some of that was just wait time I think. I couldn't see the Blazer from where the waiting room was situated so I'm not sure when they actually began the repair. All up it was about $90 - I think the division was $70 labor, $20 parts.

Glad it worked out!

I didn't consider a relay because I have an 88 and I don't think I have a relay. Odd. At least now it's fixed!
