Hey guys i am postin for my buddy he just picked up a 88 subruban with 4 wheel drive. it has brand new dunlop 35's on it and the guy says it has a 4 in lift.

now for my questions, how can i determine if this is lifted, the reason i ask is because it looks very low and the tires fill up the wheel wells pretty good. also the rear sits hella lower then the front and i noticed that the rear has some 3" blocks in the rear. so im kinda confused. it looks like the rear springs are sagging compared to the front, and there is a block in the rear WTF. my buddy wants to go a bit higher on his lift because it dosent look proportioned. but my other question is how do we determine if its a 1/2 ton 3/4 ton? it has a 350 and 4x4.

any information would be great.
thanks

check the vin for stock engine. checking casting numbers is the best way to reliably id what engine is actually in there.

and how to tell if it's 4x4: it will have a transfer case, from driveshaft, and solid front axle with a differential. 2wd will have independent front suspension, no front shaft, no transfer case, and no stick to shift it.

if the front springs are lift springs, they will have positive arch. stockers have little or no arch. simply measure the blocks (tall side, they should be tapered) to find rear lift. just have him do a shackle flip and/or zero rates.

if the wheels are 6-lug, it is not 3/4 ton, afaik. that's just a really quick and easy way to tell.

yeah im pretty sure its 8 lug, so that means its 3/4 ton right? and as far as the lift springs i will check it out when i get home. i know its a 4x4 im just wondering if its lifted. i would assome it is cause you cant fit 35's with no lift right?

ok, so if he wants to lift it up to a 6 or 8" lift what needs to be done? im pretty sure he has a 4"lift now. i am going to double check when i get home.

so hoe should we go about lifting the truck higher?

There are lots of ways to go about lifing the truck. Do a google search on lift kits, there are many kinds out there. You could search here but you have to be a member.

Lift (positive arch) springs are the way to go in the front. They make them in different sizes. In the rear you could do springs, springs w/ shackle flip, flip w/ blocks... the list goes on. Body lift is an option too.

There are too many options to list, you just need to do some research and decide what works best for you cost wise and for what you'd like to do with the truck. Pay the $25 membership here and it'll open up a large database of knowledge.

invest in the membership fee on this board and use the search function. there are tons of experts on this board (im not one of them hehe), that will be happy to assist....

FWIW - ditch the blocks and get all new springs all around!
