88 C4 back on the road.

Awesome!

I had a friend that put a 406 in one of those, ran high 11s and handled awesome at the same time.

The 7 speed manual is awesome too, never heard of that! Nice score!

Congrats!

What have we finished since he brought it home?

Gave it a look over from underneath. Couldn't when he bought it.
Fixed an exhaust leak. One manifold flange nut had been backed off for quite some time. I tried to find a part number for a new donut, so we would have it to finish. Nothing on the web. Does not use one. The nut would not easily thread on. Pulled all 3 nuts with a ratchet, because, old car. No power tools used. Pulled one exhaust bracket and dropped the exhaust far enough to run a die on each lubed stud. Went back together nice and easy like it should.

Found a minor PS leak. Save that for later. Everything else was dry.

Checked the clutch slave cylinder and arm. Squeals after it is ran for a little while. Sounds like the throw-out bearing is against the fingers. Clutch has about 250 miles on it now. I think something is in wrong. I will pull the transmission down the road and look at it.

Pulled janky wiring for a radar detector and the bracket out.

Pulled the aftermarket crappy fog lights and wiring out. At least it was on a relay.

Pulled the dash to re[lace the front speakers. We could not flat units to go back in.

Rear speakers were replaced and the boom box was removed along with the non functioning amp and the non fused feed for it. Replaced the head unit with a Sony basic Bluetooth unit. He is not a big audio guy, so any sound is better than nothing. Has hands free and CD player because, we found this in the center consul.

I told him he has to listen to it once before he tosses it. He said no.

It got a good bath. Cleaned up better than I thought it would. Had some black staining. It all came off.

New brakes were ordered from Summit Racing. Powerstop rotors and pads.

New staggered Michelins were ordered and slapped on. 275/40-17 front. 9.5" wide rim. 315/35-17 on 11.5" rim. Big meats.

After I posted that, we looked into the AC not working. Backed the car out and put gauges on it. Had 20 PSI in it. Not used since 2005, I was surprised at that. That meant it did not have a catastrophic leak. Half way through the first can, the pump clutch kicked in for a second. Then progressively ran longer as more freon went in. At 2 cans, pressures were great and cycling sounded correct. Ice cold air out of the ducts and the cooling fan was kicking on with the compressor.

So now everything officially works.

20 years ago I would have said I am not listening to that; now that I am 58 I would be nostalgic

Drove the Corvette to meet some friends this evening. I miss rowing gears.

I am surprised how quick this thing is. Breaks the tires loose in second gear, from a roll, too easily. Haven't tried 1st gear. Not my tires.
Good ol’ t.p.i. torque.

Shoot. Dad would gladly do donuts right in front of me to pay back the tires I scorched of his.

I'm pretty sure the kid probably melted down some tires on your dime growing up. One or two spirited launches wouldn't take too much tread. Shh...we won't tell.
Nope. Never was that kind of kid. Way too respectful of other people's stuff.

He was shocked when he found out I destroyed my brothers $600 each tires on his Mercedes.

Dad stopped buying tires when he figured out the rears never lasted near as long as the front tires on my Nova. I stopped the one tire fires showing off after I bought the first set myself.

That reminds me of the time a kid with a 5th gen Camaro SS his folks bought him tried to get me to warranty the rear tires. Begged and pleaded that something was wrong with the alignment causing the rears to wear out faster. I contained my laughter as best as I could. But I made a deal with him that we'd put it on the alignment rack and check it. Lo and behold when the settings came up in spec I brought him back to see for himself. Basically I let him know every guy in the shop had done what he did back at the same age. There's no mechanical issue to blame except the heavy right foot. GM won't pay for the tires when the alignment is fine.

Thinking back on it, I'd bet his Dad was pissed and sent him our way just to prove the point he caused it.

Had an 87 i nought new. Had a blast with it.

Someone makes a passenger side dash replacement piece to get rid of that awful cushion thing.

Raced the car last night. No traction on 12 inch tires.

Drove it home in the dark for the first time. Left turn indicator stays on with headlights on. Left headlight is out now. Was working. Battery light slightly flickers with the lights on. Switched to the volts display. 12.0 volts. AC dropped it to 11.2, so it was turned off. High beams checked and volts jumped to 13.5 and battery light went out. Then the voltage started dropping again.

New alternator time.
