89 350 TBI Upgrades

thanks.........that's a nice CR...which grind are you running? what pump?
i've always like the idea of being able to dial in the cam too. cam and heads is where it's at.

I'm currently running an intank pump that produces 80 psi and 255 LPH and my regulator is set for 18 psi and I don't have any issues and i've been running it this way since 1/20/2008 when I installed the new engine I built.
Its ok if you have a regulator that will cut the pressure down...I just didnt want him to drop one in the tank, then mess something up by using the one in the T-body only.

I'm still using the stock regulator in the TBI unit although i've made it adjustable.

The cam is a Comp cams 8-464-8

.550"/.546" w/1.6 rockerS
202*/212* @ .050"
113* LSA

I got the pump from Brian @ TBIchips but can't remember the brand.

i guess that pump is a Dynapex, i just saw it on Brian's web site. i doubt i'll be needing any more than the stock pump can put out...maybe 15 psi, but when i drop my tank i "may as well" since i'm going to use an adjustable regulator.

i like the idea of a lot of lift and short duration, so long as the heads will support it and i'm sure yours do. did you advance it for the computer or just to drop the torque range? seems like you should have a real nice idle and plenty of vaccum too. i wonder when the intakes close and how that cam affects the static compression. i'm researching cams at this point......most important part of any build imo. what springs are you using?

just so my little hijack doesn't go too far off topic, can you give us an idea of your fuel economy on the street? gear ratio? thanks

Thats the ticket then. Do you have any idea what the output of your engine is?
I am tossing around the idea of a different cam, and I may port these 193 heads, or go with AFR`s. Ahhh, your in Fremont...was sad to see Central chevrolet close up. Friends dad worked in the body shop there.

Yes, Dynapex is the fuel pump brand now that you mentioned it.

I'm using the stock AFR springs (can't remember the specs any longer but made sure they would work with the cam I chose).

Fuel mileage around town is 8-9 depending on how I drive, I rarely hit the freeway but the last trip to Reno (not the best choice for checking mileage since there's a 7300 ft mountian to climb) I got a little more than 11 mpg.

The blazer has 35" tires with 4.56 gears and 1 ton axles. I figure that isn't too bad considering when the blazer was bone stock I took a long trip and was only able to get 14 mpg then.

This engine makes about 373hp @ 4500 rpm and 537 ft/tq from 2000 rpm then starts to drop off slightly.

The Central Chevrolet body shop and Central tow are still open only the actual dealership closed. I have a friend who is the manager/foreman of the body shop currently. Who is your friends dad?

Just found out he retired...Bill Litzner.

Bill used to own his own shop called Litz body and frame not far from Central Chevrolet.

I never even knew he worked for Central Chevrolet. Maybe he went to work there after he closed his shop.

Yup, Pam opened the daycare. They still live on Harlan. Last time I saw Bill, he was helping My ex brother in law add an extra cab section to his brand new GMC k6500...this was back in 06.
