Is it as easy as I think? Just need an 89-91 burb/k5/dually np241 with the tps?

I've been looking really hard for a truck. I've narrowed it down that a crewcab is way out of my price range and its ok because there was no way I'd keep the 8' bed and I would like to keep a bed. So now I'm looking for a 96-98 2500/3500 ext cab short bed.

Couple more questions:

What year did they update the interior to be more rounded and not boxy?

96 was first year for vortec motors correct?

If I do get a 1500 how hard is it to put a 4l80e in place of the 60? Fabbing crossmembers isnt a problem its wiring/ecus I'm concerned with.

When did they start offering the 3 door?

96 was the first year for the vortec and I believe 95 they changed interiors. May be wrong on that one.

Don't get a 1500 and plan to swap the 4l80e. Get a 3/4 ton, way easier.

Plus, you get a little stronger IFS setup, as well as the larger rear end.

Well the truck would get SAS'd down the road with one tons. If I find a really nice 1500 would a 4l80e swap be a plug and play thing though?

The PCM is totally capable of controlling a 4l80e, but it will require some programming changes and wiring changes. I'd start with a 3/4 ton myself as well, if you want the 4l80e.

Also keep in mind that the pass side drop t-case will have it's shifter linkage on the opposite side as your truck will currently have. This isn't a problem if the truck had a push button t-case to start as there will not be any holes in the floor to fill when you install a custom shifter on the pass side of the transmission tunnel

The HD 3/4 tons got the FF
Light duty got the SF 14 bolts.
The K1500 with the 6.5 TD have 4l80E and 14B sf. Towing capacity and GVW is about the same as a LD 3/4 ton.

Check out FOURWHEELER magazine. They recently did a 4l80 swap into a mid/late 90's Sub.

Are the LD 2500s also 6 lug?

K scratch that I know the light duty 2500s came in 6lug but did they have 4l60e or 4l80?

The SF came in 6 and 8 lug in those years, plus the FF. I think if it has 8 lugs, it will have the 4l80 for sure.

Yeah just wondering if the 6 lug 2500 is 4l80e or 4l60e though....? I dont understand what the point of the LD 2500 model is if its a 4L60e...

OK guess its one of those things I'm gonna have to just get under and checkout.

I'm not too concerned on 2wd or 4wd at this point because its gonna get a pass drop tcase either way.
