'89 Blazer in MI - (used to be) nice and easy build

Everything is back together and no leaks. The steering is pretty good, just a hint of slop, but very very light or just too easy steering. These trucks are known for too sensitive of steering.
A buddy of mine picked up a set of cushy fabric seats from a '87 Blazer for me, front and rear in great condition for pretty cheap and in silver, which will blend ok with the blue interior, at least for me.
Found out that is has a limited slip rear with 3:73 gears, that should work with 33's, at least for me.

So I WOULD have posted pics last night, but I left some groceries at Belle Tire (I had time to kill, so I went shopping) so I went back with my car and had the winter tires swapped over. I really need rims for that car... and I didn't get home none to early, then stuff some food, then get in bed because 5am comes early.

Ok, so I liked that I went with 33x12.5r15 BFG AT's, yes, been there done that, boring I know and all I did was mount them on painted up ralley wheels, but I like it!!! No new ground was broken here, but I'm too cheap for that.
OH AND!!! I'm pretty sure I annoyed the techs, because I wanted the "A" in All-Terrain lined up with the valve stem. I used to do that when I worked at the tire shop back home, n o one may ever notice it, but again, I like it.

Next, I need at least a new muffler, this is way too quiet, thinking 50 series Flowmaster.
2" ORD lift
And that front grill is, well, boring. I'm thinking billet rod

You need a set of beauty rings, but leave the grille alone (unless you can find an OEM one with the emblem). I have never seen an aftermarket grille that looked as good as the factory ones.

Martin

Martin - I'm now thnking of just painting up the grill to give it a different look, as it looks really boring and wussy now. But your right, so far, I haven't found a grill I like...

On a different note, I have fallen victim, to a desease, known as "5.3 envy", so I need to just go with I think... I wanted a few more ponies and when I looked at the costs, the 5.3 gives me what I want at about the same price and better drivability... We'll see, I'm working ona deal now, we'll see how it goes.

There was an all aluminum one on gl4x4 with brand new heads not that long ago. Guy wanted like $500 iirc??

I'm glad about the grill. Those phantom bar grills bring the homo

Oh no, no bring the homo! They have there place, just not now & not on my truck.

I'll see if my deal goes through or not; there is some purchasing and swapping going on. We'll see if it all flys or dies.

I need those rimzzzzzzz!! Lol

Good deal boss. If u need some help with anything let me know

Also where'd this K5 come from? No way something that clean is from the rust belt :waytogo:

The Blazer came from New Mexico, it was owned by the National Forest Service. So it is very bare bones. At one time it called Colorado home, then on to MI where is started to rust almost instantly! haha it actually not funny, I wanna move to the south west just to save it!

Dueling, they are waiting for you, sorry I forgot to let you know when to come out. As my text says, anytime after 5 pm any night, just text me prior to showing up in case I'm busy.

I will disappoint most people when I saw, NO BEAUTY RINGS OR CENTER CAPS. I'm am not a fan, I like the plain look. I will paint the rear drum and find some new lug nuts.

My "new" seats need to be picked up (across state), I got a complete set of cloth to replace my low back vinyl seats.

HOWEVER, my baby stalled (and will not start) at my buddies house and now I have to go find out what is going on. I did install an aftermarket coil and my spark started to slowly go away... Now nothing. So I need to install the old coil ans see what happens. But first I have to wait until my wife gets home as I am Mr. mom for most of the day.
Ok, where is my coffee?:D

Well, ther motor & tranny have been aquired. It's at my buddies house, who has a programmer, so he's a one stop shop. Now I'll aquire a bunch of pars and get it all set, before I start to disassemble. Pics to come!!

Can I has serpentine setup? Lol.
I imagine you will sell the whole motor though

Here is the motor as it sits in the back of my buddies truck. Yes, that is a 2WD tranny, but he has a 4x4 tranny and wants a 2WD (to make a hot rod) so we will swap trannys. Better yet, he does programming so we can do test and tuning to get it just right.

Adam - IF, I can't sell my old motor as a whole, we could work something out, but motors tend to sell better as a whole. I won't be starting the teardown/install until I have all components and are ready to go. So I'll be running the 350 for at least 3 more months, I assume.
By the way, there are 5 rims waiting for you, with hub caps!! You can almost hear them, "Adam, take us home, he leaves us out in the rain, heeeeellllpp..... cough, sneeze, sniff!!".

OK, the Blazer is back going again. After I isolated the ignition and not computer related, I swapped to my original coil, still nothing, checked the book and had a good hunch it was the Ignition Control module. The decreasing power, slow start along with the inevitable no start, really set it home. So I had 20 minutes tonight, picked up the module, threw it in and VROOM, I mean RIGHT UP, no rev, rev, just straight Vroom. I don't think it has ever started that good for me. Now I just need to get it back to my house and drive it on the road to see how much power I was loosing.
Do I even need a LS 5.3???? heehee of course, because I really don't need it, is why I need it.

Poor rims. Ill come rescue you some night im not so damn tired after work lol.

Adam, how can you be tired, you rarely work! When I go in, your shop isn't opened yet, when I go home the shop is closed; you guys work bankers hours? hahahaha

You need a kid, you'll find out what tired is!!!

Been doing 7-5s. I know I have no excuses lol. I'm always tired though

Sad turn of events, my 5.3, turned out to be a 4.8..... When my buddy hooked his programmer to it, he checked the VIN and said it was a 4.8. Scoped the spark plug hole, yep, flat top pistons, (both 5.3 & 6.0 have dished , there are rare all aluminum 5.3 with flat tops, I have heard), the other way to tell is the part number on the crank & connecting rods, this article from Hot Rod Mag explains more and they did the same thing.

So, I'm gunna run it.... I'm not in the mood to sell this and buy a 5.3, again.
There is only a 15hp & 40 lb of torque difference and if I get hot and bothered I can throw in a 5.3 crank and rods and make a 10.5:1 compression 5.3 (stock is 9.5:1 I think).
I don't know, kinda bummed, but ok with it I guess. I knew the price was good. The seller didn't know either, he went back to the junk yard he bought it from (he bought a 6.0 instead), but they wouldn't budge.

What do you think???
