Ok, my buddy has been looking for a Suburban for a while now and found one.

89' 2500 totally stock, 350, th400/np208 14 bolt rear, 10 bolt front

body is completely rust free and in good shape, looks like it was hit but has been repaired well (no obvious bondo).

Interior is in great shape.

here's the potential deal killer... Salvaged title. :(

$3500 obo

He's only going to do recreational wheeling, just mainly looking for a rig to haul his filming crew around. He's starting a filming business...

possible salvage sale buy. and was fixed . the insurance most likly didnt want to fix it so thay sold it. and was sold and fixed. then rechecked buy state and clean bill of health was given. vary common out her in rust belt with newer autos.
 
That is kind of what I was thinking. It was obviously hit on the passenger front. New bumper bracket with factory sticker still on it and clean, new marker lenses... just basic tell tale signs that repair work was done.

But what should a salvage title knock off the price???
 
It wouldn't hurt to have someone follow him while he test drives it, to see if it goes down the road straight. I test drove one with a salvage title and it pulled to the right. Now it COULD of been low air pressure in the tires, but I worried about a bent frame, so I passed on it. :dunno:
 
Yeah, I was wondering about a bent frame also. I'm not sure if the 3/4 ton burbs have the cracked frame plague that the 1/2 ton blazers / PU's have, but I couldnt' feel any cracks. We're gonna go test drive it in about 20 minutes and I'll see about following him and keep an eye on it...

check the tire psi befor you drive it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

buddy got a pick up that had been hit and repaired very well went down the road dead straight, but after he bought it he aired all the tires up from around 20 psi and the thing was pulling off the road, had a bent frame.

the low psi cushned the drive on it.

if it has a salviage title then i bet 5 bucks it had a bent frame.

other than that sound like a nice truck
 
Well the think drove sweet, all seems mechanically fit. didn't check tire pressure, but all 4 looked to be about the same pressure (can't really tell that way I know, but they all looked to have about the same bulge at the base and looked full).

The guy mentioned the wreck before we brought it up too.

My buddie's buying it, so it's a done deal...

Should serve him well!!!

It MAY be a good deal. IF you are worried about a bent frame, take it to a body shop that can straighten frames (quite a few do these days) and have them check it. If it's bent, find out HOW bad. THEN make the decision to pass or not. Besides, if it can be corrected, it is a bargaining chip when you come down to playing the "I'll offer you ..." game.

If I suspect such damage, I always have a body shop check the frame. Last time I did it, they charge me about $50. But that was about four years ago.
 
well i hope it work out well for him.

i would hate to hear that he got bent over for it and it turned crappy on him.

i would like to see it checked some what befor its a done deal.

unless the wreck was actualy minor and it had a salvage title for some strange reason.
 
My friend is a little impulsive...

The guy said the wreck was in 2000 which would make it 11 yrs old. might have been a case of cost of repair was over blue book.

I'll recomend he take it to a frame shop and have it looked at.

Seems like a pretty nice rig though. Very clean.

He didn't even try to offer the guy anything... :confused:

I told him, next time you give me the cash and I'm buying your rig...
 
My daily driver has a salvage title. It's a 2000 Olds. It was only body damage, but some states require anything over $3,500.00 of damage to be a salvage title. With a newer vehicle, it doesn't take much too have over $3,500.00 worth of damage. I had mine checked out at both a body shop and a mechanic shop. The salvage title worked out good for me, they knocked quite a bit off the price. But that was a dealership. Car runs and handles great.
