89 k5 Trazer build "The Dirty Girl" *Tubed front/taper, full hydro steer*

Front shock hoops should be here tomorrow, so soon we can get back to re-mounting the shocks. The drivers side rock slider is tacked into place. Last night I ordered four of these: http://www.polyperformance.com/shop/Synergy-Suspension-Budget-Bump-Stop-p-25577.html They will be mounted to the frame with air bump can mounts. Then I have a 4 rubber bumpstops I got from the back of s10 blazers and they will be screwed into the aluminum budget bumps. This way, in the future as funds allow, I will eventually order up some air bumps and they will simply replace the aluminum budget bumps

Dayum, I should do that for the rear. Thats a sweet bump setup. I want rear air bumps but cant afford lol

Yeah I really wanted a set for the front at least, especially if I'm able to make it to the Silver Lake CK5 meet and greet. But I should probably replace this radiator since it looks to be in sad shape. Plus I'm trying to save for a newer tow rig so I can't splurge as much as I'd like on the trail rig right now

Ok how about some updates

Low Range Off-road shock hoop is tacked into place. A support tube will be added later. There's about the same amount of the shock shaft showing but now the shock is leaned inward so that will give more up/down travel

Few more shots:

And here's the driver's side bumpstop and mount tacked into place.

Later on down the road I will replace the aluminum tube with an actual Air Bump but this will work for now. The bump will contact a plate that is gonna get welded to the spring plates

Do you have any pictures of how you anchored your radiator? I am making a tubed core support and not quite sure on the best way to hook radiator. Looking for some direction, idears. And nice build.:waytogo:

Thanks! We haven't gotten to that point yet. Progress has been super slow lately. But the fenders are now mounted, both shock hoops are almost done, making more progress on bumpstops. Mounting the hydro ram has been halted for awhile due to a necessary part from RuffStuff being on back order for like 3 weeks

Nice job on the bumps man :thumb:

We had similar projects this last weekend lol

Some goodies arrived in the mail the other day:

Those projects will have to wait until after my wife and I move into our new house next month. But in the meantime, here's a little more progress:

Hood cut down, but still need to mount it.

Bumpstop contact pad welded onto the DIY4X spring plates.

Hydro Ram mount is pretty much done now. The removable section is also sleeved with 1.5" tubing.

In this pic, the ram is all the way to the passenger side. Since the pic was taken, my bro made both tie rods and now the knuckles need to be drilled out for new heim joints.

Here I just threw the tube door up to get a quick picture. Still need to adjust the hinges and striker.

Looking awesome :waytogo: I really like how its coming together!!

Question for you, I've been trying to decide on how I want to do my in cab cage (or an exo) and have thought about something similar to yours, its hard to tell from the pics but can the windsheild still come out ? I like the idea of a very tight exo that goes down to the sliders through the fenders or cowl but I would have to be able to r&r the glass if needed.

Keep up the great work.....your giving me lots of ideas for mine .........wait .......more projects:doah:............thats not what I need :D

Thanks guys. As for the windshield, it might come out but it would be super tight. You could design the A-pillar tubes a little farther away from the cab to be sure.

Just read the entire thing, awesome build :thumb: . Lots of good info and ideas to help with my trazer build.

Thanks, are all the pictures working for you? (the ones in the beginning of the thread) I am planning on re-doing this thread with pictures that actually show up lol. Not much progress around here cause it's been so damn cold. But I plan to have the rig at silver lake dunes in July, hopefully get a practice run before then at the Cliffs or Badlands

Not alot of pictures in the beginning but about page 35 or so they start showing up. Where abouts in Illinois are you located I'm from Burlington IA and my family has been telling me how cold it's been there.
