Putting some add-on lights in the rear as reverse lights and wiring them into my existing wires.

(Yes, lots of folks on here do it just fine and no, I'm not going to hook them up separately to a switch.)

Anyway, what color are the wires on each side for the reverse lights of a '89 K5 Blazer?
I have a '86 wiring chart but nothing for my '89. Is it the same?

Should be the same. GM still uses most of the same wire colors to this day.

Almost positive they are green.

I had to tie a 5 wire trailer harness into mine.

AJM, i know wiring isn't necessarily your favorite.....make sure to use a relay.

What do I need a relay for?

Just going to power them off of the factory reverse lights. I asked about it last month and a bunch of folks on here said they do the same thing.

Whatever style lights you setup are guaranteed to draw more power than the stock bulbs do. I would be worried about overloading the stock wiring, or more likely, that the new lights wouldnt' be that bright.

When i get to doing my backup lights, i am going to tie into the reverse light switch at teh column, mount a relay in the engine compartment, and then run 1 hot wire back to the new lights and ground to the frame. You could always put teh relay in teh rear of the truck, but will still need a hot run from the battery back. I prefer to have all my relays up front.

Eh, no one reported troubles with theirs.

Not worried if they're not super bright. Just want more light and the stockers ain't cutting it.

AJM, as brian said, the backup lights are light green, the dark green is the turn/brake for the right side. GM still uses this color on the reverse lights.

Cool, thanks guys.

This project might have just got bumped out a bit so I can fix my buddy's neglected vehicle again.
