'89 R3500 Crew Cab 2wd to 4wd conversion & beyond

Started out with 2wd TBI350 with SM465 to current 4wd with 454, 700r4, NP241
Alright so it looks like cost wise the best option for me is to not use the fuel command center. What really throws a wrench in the works for me is having the TBI fuel system. The fuel pressure is too high for the fuel command center inlet. So I would need to run a regulator. Here's a rough break down of the 2 parts lists:

Fuel Command Center (FCC):
  • FCC: $395
  • Return style regulator: $80
  • hose ends: $38 (touch high because I want a 90° on one connection)
  • Metric to -6AN adapters for factory hard lines: $40
    • this is to replace the braided lines running from frame to TBI now
  • 10ft of fuel injection hose: $29
  • Replace bad fuel pump in passenger tank: $40
  • $622 total

Higher Pressure Factory System:
  • 65psi tank selector valve: $90
  • EP381 (or Bosch equivalent) pumps x2: $118 w/strainers
  • Metric to -6AN adapters for factory hard lines: $40
  • Connectors to replace little bit of factory rubber line crimped to hard line: $14
  • FI hose camps: $14
  • 10' nylon braided -6AN hose: $53
    • Could save a little with rubber lines but would like to make this look nicer
  • -6AN hose ends: $20
  • Fuel pressure gauge and inline fitting: $33
  • $382 total
Even throwing out the cost of replacing the bad fuel pump, the FCC is going to cost me $200 more. There is a chance the pump is fine and it just got knocked off the sending unit or something along those lines.

If the truck had a carburetor fuel system the FCC would definitely be an easier/cheaper way to go.

Oh and I did figure out I can just keep the TBI filter. I cross referenced the filter part number between my truck application and a 97 Tahoe that would use the EP381 pump and they are the same part number.

Sure is interesting how quick cost add up with all the adapters and fittings.

Yep kinda sucks...but kinda important too, haha.

I remember when I placed the order for all my fuel stuff on the crew cab I thought to myself, "Damn that's a lot for not a lot of parts!" But I already figured it into my build costs when I started the crew cab, so I budgeted for it.

With the cost of the FiTech system plus all the fuel system stuff, the whole system is still cheaper than the options we had even just 3 years ago. I know cause I was looking at all aftermarket EFI systems plus bolt on TBI systems and I couldn't find anything for less than $1600 to my door. Plus FiTech is a heck of a lot easier to setup too...so either way you are on the right track IMO!

I think there are a few but not strongly out numbering the negatives so far.

I can't decide if I should do the shiny FiTech or the black. I feel like shiny looks more like a carb, which I like.

I remember with my K5 I really wanted to put FI on that motor but the cam wasn't "computer friendly"; at least not for anything under $2500. I was just telling my wife the FiTech would have been perfect for that truck. Hell, I coulda put the $800 Go Street FiTech on there nowadays and been golden.

Shiny Matches the machined valve covers

I believe that it gives incentive to work in order to get what he wants!
Yeah even if he doesn't get into messing with cars I'd like him to have some basic understanding of how stuff works. I'm worried he's going to be a gamer type and I'd like him to have some hands on exposure.

I know Dave knows where I'm coming from.
