'89 R3500 Crew Cab 2wd to 4wd conversion & beyond

Started out with 2wd TBI350 with SM465 to current 4wd with 454, 700r4, NP241
I'm have a bit of a quandary. I guess it's a bit of a cynical problem.

I've been debating whether I should replace the sensors with new ones. Like today I was looking at the MAP sensor and realizing it would be a pain in the ass to replace because it would require removing the upper plenum and the fuel rail because the bolt that holds the fuel rail down also holds the MAP sensor with the fuel rail on top. But then the cynical side of me starts wondering if sensors built today are as good as a 26 year old original even if I'm looking at GM Genuine or ACDelco sensors. :doah:

Easy to remote mount

Leave it alone…

I've eyeballed that band file before.....
I have a Dynabrade Dynafile pneumatic one and I really like how handy that thing is, its also the smoothest pnuematic tool I've ever bought, I bought it not long before they came out with the M12 version. Would be nice not having the hose, and it looks like it has better clearance. But not sure they have as many options for tips as the original DynaFile

Buy GM sensors if possible, that still doesn't guarantee no problems. Sensors today are crap compared to older ones.
I agree, the amount of testing the factory sensors have to go through is crazy, used to work in that industry, there is no way the aftermarket does the same thorough testing. And usually they would put it in the contract we could not sell to anyone but them, so it is unlikely to be the OEM manufacturer if its not a GM part.

If it’s under the plenum I’d replace it. That little cavity doesn’t get any air movement so it’s a nice oven for electric components.

What's interesting is the Terminator has an onboard MAP sensor but it requires running a small vacuum line from the intake into the cab to connect it. It also has a harness connection for the factory sensor. I'm figuring the onboard MAP is there for easier install on non-standard EFI setups.

Yes and you can use the ecu for a boosted application where as if the engine is n/a it can't get a correct map reading for boost with the factory sensor.

Haha, I got you guys! :pimp: It is a new filter that I found on our shelves but I wouldn't use it. Figured it would be good for protection while painting and keep someone from using it. Now it's extra orange. :D

Total bottom end rebuild is complete!

Craigslist rebuild as VGG would say. :rotfl:

My dad swore by fram filters, idk maybe cause we were poor but the 350 that lived in my truck for 18 years was clean as a whistle
