89 s10 buildup for rocks

If I'm understanding your rear coil upper perch mount design, they are designed to fall away from the perch and be held in place by the long bolt?

Then the bolt keeps the spring in alignment till the spring flexes back up and contacts the perch.

What about side flex of the spring? Do you think that might bind the bolt and keep it from traveling upwards?

What kind of shocks are you going to run? Sorry if I missed it in an earlier post.

I love the idea, just trying to find out if it's applicable to a full-sized rig.

you basically have the idea right. i've seen other people run this design before, usually it works for them. i will have to wait and see how the bolt goes up and down in the bracket, and play it by ear from there. if worse comes to worse, i can just use a shorter bolt and solid mount it to the bracket. for shocks, it will probably just be the cheapest long travels i can find, but i have no preference.
 
it was time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, but i was all out of gum.

Where to start…

The countdown is on, and we need to get this truck done so we can get our company into the next phase of our business. I know all people really want to see is the pictures, so here they are.

The rear support for the second t-case




i got my front square driveline made, the diff side yoke is from the stock s10 shaft, the t-case side yoke is from a toyota driveshaft. i had to cut the flange off a chevy cv driveshaft and weld the toyota yoke to it so it would bolt to the 241. the pieces of tube were 2x2x.25 and 2.5x2.5x.25.

the new removable trans crossmember. i ended up making one that still went under the driveshaft, because it would have been near impossible to bend a tube that would clear the shifting linkage.




then, finally, the s10 made it out of the garage. the chassis is 90% done, i am just tying up loose ends. and just for kicks, i did a little flex test. it did moderately well, but i suspect it will do much better with the weight of the body on it.






i noticed the drivers side shackle was past vertical, i may need to move it up a notch.
 
i also got my steering linkage all done up. all i am waiting on now for that is the correct steering box. the behind the axle steering really looks good now that it is on the axle.

the box i have is going to make the tires turn the wrong way. you must not have caught the fact that i flipped my knuckles side to side, and now my drag link mounts behind the axle. i have to flip the pitman arm 180* to correct it, and with the s10 box, that would put the pitman arm like 10" in front of axle. i need a astro steering box, the arm is supposed to mount forward, and i will be using it backwards. i just asked for the pitman arm that fit a saginaw box and was already reamed for the GM TRE. i think i've seen it used as a ford drop pitman arm originally
 
huge progress

long story short, we got the body on today and fired it up. it still runs great, but its hella loud now because of the exhaust. anyways, i will let the pictures do most of the talking, but i will say that compared to the stock 87 blazer we have, its sitting at about 10-12" of lift right now. it's taller than what i wanted, but its about the best (lowest) i can get without making a home brew spring pack for the front. as for wheel base, its at 107, about 2" back on the rear and 4.5" forward on the front over stock. it has 30.5" of ground clearance under the frame.

a crossmember i added to brace the coil buckets, plus it gives me a place to use a limit chain and inboard my shocks at a later date.

how much i cut out of the floor pan to avoid a body lift. the second t-case didnt clear the floor.

just playing around. had to teach the GF what articulation was, and we needed an example.

pretty cool using the stock mounts. i used those ford f250 mounts and just used the stock locations on the axle. might want to flex the front to make sure those dont bottom out or hit anything. looks great

they dont hit anything, but i dont think they are long enough. i've got the correct about of up travel, but i think they are going to hold the axle up when drooping. i guess 13.5" of travel just isnt enough :D
 
well, this thing keeps getting closer and closer to being done. it is now "drivable", at least mechanically. it still needs a few things, but its coming along just fine. we finally got paint on it, i love the way it looks now. i also took it out for a flex test, and i was really surprised at what it would do. the good stuff is on video and is uploading as we speak.
