89 Suburban DD Build (finally a 3/4ton)

Good news. Getting a decent insurance payout with out totalling. Should be able to get the longblock rebuilt and fix the body work myself

Alot of metal in the oil. I'm guessing rod bearing or wrist pin. Either way sounds terrible and the oil shouldn't shine after 3 days.

The adjuster who came to look at my sub was pretty cool and had some good advice. He had alot of experience in body work and said he personally would fix the panel rather than replace it.

It is a bummer to see alot of the these rigs gutted and then crushed. I'm glad that I am going to be able to save mine. With what funds I had left from selling my truck and insurance, I should be able to get the engine rebuilt, do the body work myself and finish the swap.

The adjuster said he was figuring for the rearend to be checked out also. Since I have a 14bff sitting on the floor. I see no reason to run on the 10bolt that took a good impact even though there is no visible damage.

I finally started work on the burb again tonight, sadly time has been a bigger factor than money, usually its the latter. I need to get the engine out and get it to a shop for a rebuild. The burb was originally equipped with an oil cooler and after all the metal I found in the oil I need to either remove it or replace it, however the cooler is integrated into the radiator.

The oil cooler is? I have only ever seen the Trans cooler integrated into the rad. Are you sure you didn't miss see? I removed the oil cooler on my 90 andit was just a nnormal external one.

Ahh yes your right. I was pretty tired last night. Dont know what I was thinking. I was pulling parts to remove the radiator and had that oil cooler on my mind. Thanks for straighting me out lol

Well im sad to say but im considering selling my suburban since I just don't time nor the space right now. But I really dont know what to ask for it. These things go so cheap and the. Body and paint on mine was really good before that minor damage and now a bad motor. Id want to sell it whole with the axles and lift and not be nickel and dimed parting it out. Any ideas what to ask for it?

Doesn't seem worth selling it. Keep it around a couple years until you do have the time. Sadly, as it sits, it's worth little more than scrap value.

Haven't touched the suburban nor excepted any offers on getting rid of it. I gave up my search on a 7.3 crewcab and bought my wife a new rig instead...

Put all my burb project funds as a down payment, but how ever I need to fix up and sell my dads 86 dually and then i might need to finish my 89 sub, so I haven't given up yet.

Well after a year and being set on buying a 7.3 crewcab with the wife wanting the 89 gone. Today I picked up the cherry picker from my dad and tomorrow I'm off work and the engine is coming out and work resume on it.

Yep. Yesterdays morning the plan was to clean it out and pull it out of the garage and by the end of the day it was to fix and keep. Gonna get the 350 rebuilt. As much as I'd love to do a 5.3 I have a barely used rebuilt tbi throttle body I had rebuilt before it died. Then I'll get ahold of ORD for the lift and 3/4ton swap cause I don't trust the 10bolt rear end that got the brunt of the tbone impact.
