89 Suburban is gone....added a K5 in it's place..87 V30 WONTON

Well this is sad to post on here with Marc being gone, but I figure this is about his Blazer so this is where it belongs. I need to get to work on this thing if we want to get it to Blazer Bash. I haven’t had any time or motivation this last year or two with my girls going full tilt boogie between school and club travel ball. But now, the oldest is driving herself and school/sports is on break.
Marc drove this thing on salty, snowy roads in Idaho and then it got parked in his shop because the th400 is shot and leaking everywhere. The body was always a rusty dog, but the chassis was clean. Not anymore. The salt thrashed everything. The only thing that isn’t rusty is the shock shafts and bumpstop shafts. And those aren’t great either. I bought three bottles of gel rust remover and a case of rust converter paint.
I spent two hours pressure washing all the oil and dirt from the trans leak, then coated the front half of the rig with rust remover.
Brushed it all over then rinsed off. Let it dry 24 and started coating with black converter.
Still need to do the back half but it’s been 100 plus here so slow going.
My brother Kenny is coming over tomorrow to help pull the t-case and th400. If we’re lucky, maybe we will get the new trans back in before we have to go to a good friends daughters wedding reception.
The 205 is leaking pretty bad from the shift shaft seals and wherever else it seems, so i’ll reseal that before it goes back in.

Yeah. Still in the same place:(

How’s the fitment with the 6L? It’s a maybe when the 4l60 blows.

Glad you are working on this!

Well this rig has a 2017 gen V 5.3 so the 6L80 is what is supposed to be on this thing.
I have to make a new crossmember because we just welded a piece in to get to moab.

It clears the body like any other trans. It is 1-5/8” shorter than the th400, but we need a 1-5/8” spacer from advance adapters anyway so the driveshafts will work

First test drive in the books!
Ecm and Tcm seem to be happy with each other as far as I can tell. Shifts through all six gears. I need to address some exhaust leaks first before I drive it anymore. Also need to fab a mount for the 205 shifter.

Dumb question - what's the gearing in the axles? I always wondered how a 6L80/90 that doesn't have a 1:1 gear would do with more traditional gearing. My Silverado and Yukon with 3.42 and 3.08 gears never seemed high geared thanks to that.

4.11 I believe. I should probably check that to be sure.
