Hey guys, Ive been at it for a while albeit not nearly as progressive as I would like, I work too darn much and have a horrible schedule...anyways I have yet to start a build thread over here, I figure its time to make myself known. Any way, Here goes. :D

This is the day I brought her home Jan 11th 2014

Work Begins

Work began about a week later, if you look at the first pics the rear end is sagging a bit, I originally thought weak suspension, however upon getting into things I discovered the ole tail pan was shot, and the entire rear end, body and all was being supported by 2x4s the PO had put between the frame and the bottom of the bed. You can see the drywall screws in the bed that were screwed into the 2x4s

Which would explain why my bed bolts appeared to be sticking up, they weren't really sticking up, the entire rear end was sagging down behind the 2x4s which were in front of the body bolts

unwrapping the presents, aka, carpet removal

Me and my Heeler Zip began removing the carpet to see what was underneath, Zip actually did help, I should have taken a video of him Tug of warring pieces of carpet up.

And what did we discover? More ingenuity by the PO, galvanized sheet metal, sheet metal screws and duct tape in the rear corners of the passenger footwells.

which were covering up these beauties

Inside shots

All in all, I think things could have been a lot worse than they were, I still have a lot of good real estate to work with.

Then the bad

So we had an awful winter, I have this K5, a Taurus I had for a DD, and a Corvette, shown here.

We had a huge snow come through, Im a cop, I have to get to work, no calling off for me and no closing down due to weather. My Taurus was stuck, and the vette sure as heck wasn't coming out of the garage. So though I didn't really want to as the tires weren't all that great, I had to drive the K5 into work. Made it in ok, but coming back the roads were solid white packed snow/ice/sleet. I was tooling along at about 20-30mph and the rear end just started going out, I counter steered, let off the gas, but it was too late. I smashed the rear end into a concrete median wall. :(

I did my best to straighten things out as much as possible with the old wood block and sledge technique

Rebuilding the rear

I took a break for a while, smashing my rear end kinda took the steam out of my motivation for a while, that and extremely cold temperatures. But I got back to it and started up again with the rear end.

Had to make a brace and hoists with some ratchet straps hooked to the ceiling joists to raise the rear end up, this method worked better than I thought it would.

Cut out the old and fabricated back in some new

More replacement

Started getting onto the fenders and that rear corner I buggered up.

I remounted my original tailgate that was tweaked from the smash, but I later changed my mind.

Got to rebuilding the bed as well. I went and found a used tailgate from the junkyard that was straight and had great hinges. The hinges on the tailgate I had were seized something awful. So bad I wouldn't have needed tailgate springs. Its funny I got a color match, but unfortunately im not staying with these colors.

Some Seats

And this fellas is pretty much where im at as of right now.

A few months back I found these third row seats from a Yukon I will use for the back. They have been sitting in the garage for a while now, I haven't even cleaned them up yet, but for 125 bucks I was happy.

Today I went to the junk yard hunting for new front seats, I found these from a chevy trailblazer that matched the Yukon rear close enough for me.
I have yet to clean these up either, just got em today and as I type this I have been awake for 26 and 1/2 hours. So they are in the garage til I get to em.

And that's it so far fellas, I have parts ordered I hope to have in this week, rear window sash as well as tailgate and rear window seals along with some other tailgate internals. Hope to have the rear window back in and functioning by next weekend, but we shall see how things go.

Well nice to see im not the only one with bad rust issues. ..... looks like you are making some progress even with the the MVA . . . . one good thing it was an area that had rust:D

yep

Haha, true...it also knocked about 15 lbs of hidden dirt, grime, caked on sand, and river rock that was hidden up inside the body panels and under carriage. After the smash up I got out to check things and there on the perfectly white snow pack was a bunch of sand, small brown gravel and dirt. So ya we could also call it an aggressive cleaning.

Looks almost exactly like my bedside repairs I had to do. I had similar rust, and a ton of damage too. My pass side was a mess almost as bad as yours. Glad you decided to embrace the suck and carry on with it!

Get some sleep! :waytogo:

rust

I knew payin 1000 bucks I was gonna have some rust, but didnt know it was gonna be this much. Hard to find rust free in st.louis area.

Replaced the sleeve on my steering column and also installed a new ignition tumbler, iblost my keys earlier this year and it had my vette blocked in the garage. We were late for a wedding and I had to get the vette out so I broke the column sleeve and popped the tumbler out. Three months later I found my keys between the washer and dryer. So today got that all fixed up. I also fabricated mounts for the right tail light housing as the replacement corner I patched in did not have any mounts. So the right tail light is in and functional. No pics today, im wore out and need a nap before I go to work tonight.

So THATS what a window sash is supposed to look like!!!! I didnt realize how bad mine was until today. Any recomendations on a coating for rust prevention before I install it. POR15?? Or just spray it with some rustoleum?
