90' K5 Build "SRT Rig"

OH!! haha, Ya ive def put some time into it, it really doesn't seem like it just looking at this thread but I started back in march so im at about 6 months now.

Plans are getting everything right, mechanically and cosmetically. Probably going to paint it flat OD Green.

4" lift, 37 inch tires with some fender trimming.

14 bolt FF rear and equivalent axle up front, Either crossover steering or hydro assist steering.

Lots of other plans as well, this will probably be an ongoing project with everything I want to add to it eventually.

tailgate repairs

Did my best to clean up the ole tailgate. Patched some rusty areas. Wire wheeled the surface rust then sanded and bedlined it up.

Wellon Wednesday I got started with the intention of gettin the rig primered, but it took me alot longer to strip it down to bare metal so I decided to just get the front clip primered. I got involved and only took one pic while I was strippin her down, but I got it done. Had to work Thursday and have plans tonight, may get some more done on sunday, But heres some shots of the progress. Primer still wet in the photos.

Primered!!! Lots and lots of sanding today, followed by some sanding, then after that I did some sanding....im remembering why I dont do this for a living, that and im not very good at body work :-D ...... rustoleum rusty metal primer, thinned 2:1 w Acetone sprayed w hvlp gun.

I thought about giving up and buying another one, I really did......but I kept pushing through and got to a point where I was like...well, ive come this far, no stopping now.....I didn't do the best on the body work so depending on how bad it looks after I spray the OD green tomorrow, it may just get camo'd out. Thanks for subscribing, there is much more to come, $$ slows me down at times though.

And I know I know, before anyone says it I should have pulled the top off before I sprayed the truck, but if the top ever comes off....and thats a big IF, im just gonna bedline the top of the bed caps.

Top removal is about 15 minutes, less if you make a lifting mechanism in your garage. Top off is a ton of fun, and totally worth it IMO, and one of the top reasons to have a K5.

Painted it with two coats of rustoleum rusty metal primer, then 3 coats of rapco/gci olive drab.... I thinned the primer 2:1 w acetone, gci 4:1 with acetone.

Thanks fellas, its finally starting to look like something.

Thanks, I felt at times like I was never gonna get to paint this thing.... still a few things to do on the exterior, black out the mirrors, door handle, and key hole. Also going to mask off the aluminum frame around the rear windows and paint those black as well.

I might paint the wheels black to hold me over until I get another set of wheels and bigger tires with lift.

But once I get that stuff blacked out, which shouldn't be more than a day long project, im going to start working on the interior. Gotta get things buttoned up in there and get my new seats in. New window motors all around too.

Why own a Blazer and not take the top off????????

Martin

well I might get some Flak for this one, but my last 4x4 was an 09' Wrangler, this blazer doesn't hold a candle to that thing when it comes to top and doors off. That and comparative to my wrangler this is a PITA to take off, I had a hoist in my garage for my wrangler hard top, and that was only 6 bolts, I timed myself once with some friends over cuz no one believed me, I had the top and doors off my jeep in under 4 minutes

Nice! Really makes me want to get a cheap truck off CL and paint it just like yours for a fun "easy" project!
