'90 K5 "Project Sanity" Sold 7/5/2018

Nick bought a headlight switch at Bucks and installed it last year, you bought a new switch, then there was the original, and a second random headlight switch floating around in the back of the Blazer. They probably all work just fine. After doing an autopsy on one I have to say they are a very robust piece. Something would have to get into the switch to contaminate it, or some high heat would have to be introduced somehow to take one of these out.

I actually felt guilty tracing the headlight switch wiring. You did such an awesome job wiring my truck, it felt wrong mucking about with it. At any rate everything works as it should now, to your credit, not mine. Thanks again!:waytogo:

Knocked a couple of things off the list today. Found a spray bomb Dupli-color dark metallic green that matches the green on the truck. Sprayed the fangs and the sheet metal part at the bottom of the grill. Re-sprayed the shock hoop cross brace. Found out the hard way an oil filter for an '06 5.3 is different than one for an '07. I bought one for an '07 and it slipped right over the threads without catching. I guess they went with slightly bigger threads in 07.

So, got the oil changed, and new filter once I got the right one. Did a little bit of painting, and bolted up the front bumper. I am still finding little things like the vacuum supply to the HVAC controls is hooked to nothing under the hood. If it was a small block I'd have all sorts of vac port options, but on the 5.3 the only vacuum I can see is the line going to the brake booster. Anyone know of a vac port source on a LM7 that I'm not seeing?

The oil pressure gauge doesn't work, it's pegged on the high side. I need a Tee for the windshield washer hoses. I need to bolt down the overflow container, but need to mark and drill the holes first. No holes in the chinese inner fenders I installed.

I found and fixed a small leak at the brake prop valve. Found another leak at the return line for the power steering. I tightened up the clamps and wiped everything dry. I'll run it for a while tomorrow and make sure those leaks are fixed.

I think tomorrow I'll bolt up the front driveshaft, double check T-case shifter adjustment is correct. That should be pretty quick.

Two spots you can get vacuum from. Easiest is on the pass side of the intake about 2/3 of the way back there is a vacuum nipple, you just have to break the end of it off to use it.

Second where the evap purge solenoid is on the intake right behind the throttle body. I've seen guys remove that and thread the hole for a pipe fitting.

That was going to be my other question, was what was that thing behind the throttle body and why was it not plugged in or anything. Evap purge makes sense. The passenger side nipple sounds perfect. My HVAC vac line is on that side of the truck and even the length is about right. Thanks!

What did you end up using for the oil pressure sender? On mine, the stock 5.3 sensor matched up to the 91 harness fine, but I had the same problem. The gauge was high all the time. I know it wasn't right.

A high gauge reading can be an indication of an open circuit. I did replace my sensor with another one and got the same result. So while fiddling with the connector to the sensor the gauge came back in line. Here's the diag specific for the high gauge reading. Pretty simple.

Gauge Reads High Pressure
Disconnect lead at sending unit. Turn ignition on. Connect a fused jumper wire from sending unit Tan wire to ground. If the gauge reads low pressure, replace oil pressure sending unit. If fuel gauge reads high pressure, check for open circuit in Tan wire. If the circuit is okay, replace oil pressure gauge.

I did try another gauge as I have a couple of spares just as a double check and got the same thing. So in my case, it was just a poor connection. Not much to go wrong on the gauge itself so I think that is a less than likely scenario.

Still has the stock sender, I'm about to go check that situation out...

I took tRusty out for a drive around the neighborhood, then to the gas station, then more around the 'hood. Nothing bad jumped out at me. Goes down the road straight, has gobs of power compared to the old TBI 350. Shifts a little soft, but they're all there. I think that can be tuned?

Snapped a couple of outdoor pics too

Interested to see what this thing gets for gas mileage. My ‘11 has the 5.3L, 3.42’s, and 33ish tires. 6 speed auto but heavier truck.

Right now a tank of fuel lasts forever...:D

I'm guessing still worse than your '11 due to worse aerodynamics, but hoping its better than the old 350.

Well, 85mph on the highway isn’t good for mpg either. I see about 15mpg average.

I'd be pretty happy with 15 to the US gallon...

I average a tick under 17 mpg with my '15 GMC with about a 50/50 mix of driving. My all time best was on a trip to BC a few months ago when it managed 22 mpg over a 450 mile stretch. Had the cruise set to a hair under 70 mph for about all of that.

That's awesome to see Rene' congrats buddy
