It's been a long time since a friend and I stripped the interior out of the 90 Sub that's going into my 85 Sub. At that time, I was still under the delusion that most everything optioned was generally a bolt in affair. I no longer suffer under that delusion, but now I have no idea how the grab handles were affixed to the 90 roof, and no pics to reference back to.

So, can anyone describe (or provide a picture of) how they were affixed? At first I thought maybe at least one side was held by the roof pinch weld bolts, but that's not lining up. I'll have to test fit the headliner tomorrow, but at the moment I'm operating under the assumption I'll need to install 5/16 Rivnuts at each mounting location, but wondered what the factory attachments might be.

Ive got a 90 with headliner ripped out. Where were the handles? Ill take pics tomorrow at work

They are above the other three doors.
They are clip nuts. And I think # 10 screws.

Yes, above every door except driver, though I plan to add one there to aid in entry (getting old) without using wheel, though it may be on A-pillar.

Anyway, my handles from the 90 donor are 5/16 bolts. I have 5/16 Rivnuts I expect to use.

Front half of headliner wasnt pulled yet. I pulled a handle. The bolts are 1/4-20×1.75. There are nuts spotted in.20201223_104740.jpg 20201223_104706.jpg 20201223_104535.jpg

Great! Thanks for the pictures!

I sorta expected that, but was wondering if it might have been the factory rin-nut-ish things like used for adding some options like the rear air diverter.

Looks like I had a memory misfire on the bolt size. Luckily, I have 1/4-20 Rivnuts as well. With the opening gap above, I think I can get a washer backer on them as well, but with the material thickness, I think it should be plenty strong without.
