90 V2500 Sub - LIVEanimals Slow Build [Bit by the dark side bug]

I love these things already. They're so much quieter and they're a full inch taller at 34" tall.

You can get a lot of miles out of those tires. They're pretty tough too. You can probably drive right through a pile of nails and not pick up a single one.

Okay maybe that's an exaggeration, but I've been running a set of the BFG Mud Terrains for over 25,000 miles and over 7 years and I've never seen a nail in the tire. Plus there's over half the tread left. They're really tough. I've only had one flat and that was just because a LOT of sticky mud got around the bead and broke it loose somehow after it started to dry out and harden. All I did was clean the mud off and air it back up.

I live on a gravel road, and it sure seems to wear my BFG's.

Most of my miles have been on pavement I guess. Maybe that wears them more evenly. If I would get my toe-in right, I think they would have worn down evenly all over. They do have more wear on the outside edge than the inside, but I still expect to get another 10,000 out of them. They sure have lasted a lot longer than a set of Super Swampers anyway. Ride pretty good too since they're radials.

No, it's a steel fairlead I'll be running wire cable most likely.

I had a steal fairlead like that for a few years. The cable dug into it really bad. I don't guess it hurt the cable, but it looked bad and the fairlead got rusty where it was gouged up. It also sounded terrible when the wire hit it. No big deal though. I have a roller fairlead now and I like it better. Just saying.

What winch are thinking of running?

I was going to go with one of Warns newer VR series 12k winches until they came out with the Zeon series now that has my attention. They seem to good to not pay an extra $300 for.

I was going to suggest the VR12000 for your heavy Suburban. I have the VR10000 on my truck and it does great, especially for the money. It doesn't weigh nearly as much as your Sub though.

I kind of wish now that I had held out for the Zeon. Man that thing looks sleek. I like the way the solenoid pack is mounted too. It looks a lot more solid than the way it's mounted on the VR. It just looks really modern to me. I think either one would be good for you. I don't know about the Zeon, but my VR10000 came with a nice roller fairlead.

Have you used your VR much? How does it perform? I'm still considering the VR12000 mainly for the price but I just can't see past the Zeon, so I guess we'll see how desperate I get when I get some money together.

I haven't had the chance to use it much yet actually. I just got it last month. But I am impressed with the speed and power of the motor for sure. It blows my crappy old Superwinch LP8500 away, but it seems slower than the XP9500 Warns and definately slower than the 8274.

The only 2 things that bother me about it are the way the connector for the remote control is mounted and the remote control itself. The connector is only held in place by these 2 little smooth rivet things that aren't flared out; they just have a little flat washer on the other side to hold them in place. I'm going to replace them with bolts/lock washers/nuts when I get around to it. And the remote control works like all the other ones, it just looks cheap compared to the standard Warn controllers. A normal Warn control may work on it - I don't know.

As soon as I have a chance to use it to unstick someone, I'll post up and let you know about it. With the way my area has been flooded out this whole year so far, it won't be long. Whenever the water starts receeding, there will be a plethora of rednecks getting stuck down by the river. All I'll have to do is sit down at one certain spot where they launch their boats and I'll be able to test the winch out properly.

This is the only level place I have to check my oil, doesn't fit quite like it used to.

:haha: You may have to let some air out of the tires to get it all the way in there.

I thought I was going to be able to use my winch on a forklift that got off the pavement too far and got stuck at work last week so I could tell you how well it pulled, but then a guy came along in a medium duty truck and pulled the forklift back on the blacktop. Maybe I'll get to use it soon and I can make a video. I've found many uses for winches besides extracting vehicles. I once used my old one to pull a heavy piano across my dad's porch and down a ramp we had rigged up onto a trailer. That was cool.
