90 V2500 Sub - LIVEanimals Slow Build [Bit by the dark side bug]

I'd be a little nervous about pulling too hard on those tow hooks with the added leverage from those spacers.

Martin

Yea I was thinking the same thing, Ill take it easy on them and see how it goes. I'll most likely be adding shackles onto the front of the bumper.

What a great looking little guy. Head full of hair too. Congratulations! :thumb:

If you're going to run those tow hooks like that, I think you should consider mounting them with grade 8 hardware. I mounted a pair of tow hooks with grade 5 bolts one time and the bolts sheared off the very first time I tried to pull something with them. I still think that mounting some shackles or D-rings to the front bumper is the way to go for sure though. Think about how hard it's going to be to get to those stock hooks if you find yourself in a hole or in some high water or mud. It will be much easier to hook up to some rings on the front or top of the bumper. You could even mount some hooks pointing up like on a Jeep. Just make sure to mount them inline with the frame rails. That would be easier than welding shackle mounts on the bumper and having to paint it and all that.

Thanks.

I dont think I'm going to bother trying to make the factory hooks work. I'll just add some recovery points to the face of the bumper.

Finally sourced a winch, I went with the 8274 because of the nostalgia and it fits this old Warn Classic bumper I have best. Its in good shape, the ol timer I bought it from went through it a couple years ago when he bought it.

You can't go wrong with that one. That's what I always picture in those old Warn bumpers anyway. Those are the fastest electric winches I've ever seen in action.

Yea something like 74 fpm unloaded, that's impressive. I still need to buy the accessories i.e. snatch block, tree saver and what not.

Believe it or not, I've found that Amazon is a good place for winch accessories. I got a Smittybilt snatch block off there real cheap.

I've always liked shopping on Amazon, eBay, and summit. Something about not having to put pants on to go shopping is great. You don't have to worry about people looking at ya funny either :dunno:

Well this update has both good and bad news. Starting with the bad, I have roughly 2k miles on my new BFG ATs and this happens

Its going to get warrantied but I hope this is a one time thing and the rest stay intact.

On with the good, I finally installed my winch. I had to take the bumper off and make new mounting brackets beause the first set I made years ago put the winch on the body. On to pics.

Thanks

In the distant future but next on the agenda is to move the oil cooler and trans cooler under the truck with some fancy coolers and remove the mechanical fan in favor of some electric fans.

Update new winch remote: so the old conduit 90* momentary toggle/extension cord cable in above pic wasnt cutting it. So a buddy and I fashioned up this remote out of an old Warn remote and some 16 awg SO cable (about 16 ft worth) and a new 4 pin trailer plug.

All soldered up n stuff

Thanks Larry. I think this Sub is becoming a period correct (straight out of the 90s) build which I like. Someday it'll be as well equipped as your 78 is.
