I am looking at driving a few hours to look at this truck and need to know what trans it should have.

Is the 4L60 (late 700r4) any good or should I hold out for a 4L80E truck if this one is not?

Easiest way is to simply have the trans code looked up on the RPO tag in the glove box. Trans codes were "Mxx" although I don't know what the code is of those two.

look under it and 4 bolt tail on tranny is th350/700r4/4l60 and 6 bolt tail is th400/4l80-e/and 96-later model 4l65-e new stuff.

The 4L60E only had 4 bolts on the tail housing as well until 1996 then they became a 6 bolt housing mid year 1996 so either could have been had in 1996 but prior to that they were all 4 bolt housing.
