What kind of private hell is replacing all the guides, channels and motor in the tailgate? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rick

Couldn't hurt! I have the LMC book to refer to also.
I was just wondering if anyone has taken upon this project and lived to tell the story.

I was in there recently, as I was changing out the weatherstripping and inner/outer guides, and pulled off the cover to pound out a dent. It's really not too bad.

Pulling out the window is the thing you have to be careful with. You can bypass the safety switch so it will wind out when the tailgate is down and you can disconnect it from the regulator and pull it out. Be sure to support it so it doesn't crack or fall out. It is somewhat heavy.

It's really little different than a regular window, just on a larger scale, and you don't have quite as much room to work as you would on a door. My motor works so I didn't bother to replace it, but it looks fairly simple to remove. The access panel gives you reasonable room to work. My channels were okay so I just shot in a little silicone spray and the window seems to operate a little faster/smoother now.

Its not that hard to work on. I have had all the guts out of mine when it was painted before i rebuilt it. The side channels are bad about the felt wearing out of them then you just have metal guiding the glass. Open the tailgate remove the inner panel. The motor just bolt in with three bolts ,easy to chance. If you need to fix more. Then latch the latches on the tailgate so it thinks it is shut. Then you can roll the window out part way Remove the inner window seal, then you can unbolt the glass from the regulator and pull it out. If you need to remove the regulator just be careful with it ,it is kind of spring loaded.
