Hey everyone new to the site but everyone on here seems to be way easier to deal with compared to other online sites. A little insight on my rig and the questions I’m about to ask. I bought a 91 half ton suburban in the winter with a blown motor (not in the truck when I bought it) for 500$. Has a lift and came with a bunch of pretty useless tires and rims but I’ve always wanted a suburban. After getting a little deeper into this project found that all the TBI wires were either burnt hacked or bare and exposed. So this would be the start of switching over to a carb setup. Ended up mounting a early 80s 350 into the truck that I was using for something else set up to run a carb. My main issue at this current moment in time is I’m a little foggy on my fuel setup and how to run it. I know I either can run the in tank with a fuel regulator or mechanical fuel pump and either remove the in tank or rig up a hose to the bottom of the pump and away we go.
Before I get way ahead of myself I would like to know which way I should go. I have a Holley 12-804 fuel pressure regulator and I have a new carter mechanical fuel pump the style with the three attachments as I’ve read that this year would need as it has a vent for the tank and the inlet and outlet. So I’m open to going either way on fuel setups. I’ve tracked all the fuel lines so after I decide what way to go it should be setup then trouble shoot any issues out. I have the feed line and the slightly smaller return but I’m very confused on the vent line. I see that it runs from tank top all the way to the front of the truck then across from passengers side to drivers side where it seems to go to a carbon canister right behind the headlights but this is what confuses me the most shouldn’t it complete a full circuit to work correctly or is this semi useless? I’m not worried about emissions as this truck will be a weekend warrior and will not need to go and try and pass to get weekend permits. Any help and direction would be great
