Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm reading FOUR WHEELER (yeah, yeah ... my first mistake!) They have an article "Best Buy In Used 4x4s". Their pick for full size rigs was the 91 to 98 GM K-3500 becuae of it's engine choice, 14 Bolt rear axle and Dana 60 front axle.

I was under the impression the D60 front axle ended in 87 and 91 on the crewcabs, cab and chasis and a few odd second generation 1 tons still being produced. But, by 92 weren't even the 1 ton 4x4s doing the independent front suspension?

Thanks,

Eric M.

The "new" 88+ body style never had a straight axle of any kind from the factory. There are 3500HD straight axle conversions out there but they are 10 lug.

For GM factory straight front axles died with the square body style in 91.

I read the same thing and as far as I know you're right....... unless chevy has been hiding those trucks from everyone except them:haha:

As John said...

Anything of the newer-bodied trucks with a SFA would have to be swapped in. Nothing else to it.

ORU is on the top of my head as the leading SAS for GM trucks with their kits.

doesnt the 88+ 3500 HD still use leaf springs up front on the 2wd's? does anyone know the spring width?

if i recall corectly its a odd spacing. stock gm is 32" .... newer ford is 36" .... and the gm3500hd is like 34" still not a total swap in mod.

I remember reading a SAS swap in a magazine a little while back (peterson's???), and they did a swap using a kit from.... jeez what was it....

CAGE!!

Cage built a kit for an SAS swap while they installed it in a 200? chevy 1500. They used coils for a bronco, and alot of bronco parts, but it was a cool swap, and kit should be out for them now.

someone should e-mail them and let them know...I wonder how stuff like that gets printed...basically anyone who is into trucks would know the nbs chevy trucks didn't come with a sfa from the factory...

sad but true...I've always thought that'd be a fun job... being in the office wouldn't be a blast but it'd be time well spent if the other 75% of the time you were out in the field gathering info for stories...

They used these two kits:

And then they used spring buckets for a bronco, and more bronco stuff, and a few custom things.

It said in the mag that a kit should be coming out eventually, but there isn't one yet....

So I wonder if they actually will make one.

And I wonder how many people will actually buy the kit, considering most of the swapped in parts are furd parts (or modeled after furd parts)

But it would be a nice option.

from what I've read in these rags, they focus heavily on newer vehicles . old school stuff that most of us play with shows up rarely,,,more BLING-BLING than users.
