thanks man, I also just picked up a built 14 bolt last weekend 4.88 gears, detroit, and disc conversion for only $500, it also has 4 link brackets but I'm going to stay with leafs for now

Oh come on you got the talent for the 4 link:. I've been drinkin but I still want to see you do it:D

i probably do(or think i do)but i just don't have enough experience in that area yet but maybe on a later project i'll go for it, i just want to get this thing done already, but thanks for the vote of confidence anyway

so i can't find my camera, so I've been using my phone and just emailed a bunch of pics to myself so I can continue posting so here they are

I didn't like how low my gas tank hung so I'm in the middle of swapping in an S10 series tank in it's place it's 10 gallons less but frees up acres of clearance in many areas under the truck and the sender OHMs are the same for both so my gauge will read correctly, just had to splice the connector over because the plugs are different but everything else is the same

also got the built 14 bolt all swapped in with Ballistic Fab perches

drilled and tapped the side of my reman'd steering box and i'm using a billet front cover for turning the other direction instead of drilling/tapping two holes

i added some door speakers too 6.5"

i picked up this used tierod/draglink assembly for my axle so i could get the factory distance from end to end so i can build a custom tierod with 1.5"x.250" tubing

and the 5/8" heims i'll be using courtesy of Ruff Stuff Specialties

And now for some real fun stuff I notched the bed plating in order to fit the larger aluminum bed box that I had wanted to install originally

20110422181704.jpg

and here's a swing away tailgate for the rear i'm working on, still going to add bracing in the center portion and mount my license plate here since the new box now blocks the old location

20110422181720.jpg

i used the remnants of the outer link brackets i cut off the axle for the gate mounts, so they're beefy

20110422180903.jpg

this is the latching mechanism, just a clevis end that I cut the threads off and welded to the gate then welded a tab to the bed, it all sits behind the center of the 180* bend and i'm going to get a pin with a hole and use a spring clip to secure it in place but still allow quick access

Nice work:waytogo: You have a lot of great things going on here. When do we see some good action pictures.:D

thanks a ton, and asap I hope, just want to have everything the way I want before I take it out, I've waited this long already so I don't mind waiting longer

but really the last large $$$ item holding it back is getting the front axle setup and at least a custom rear driveshaft, I can make my own front if need be

Shoot that's just like the tire gate I'm getting ready to build.

I was planning on using a spring loaded latch like this to secure it.

I've been deciding between a swing out like that or a swing out that is mounted flat on the rear crossmember (acting as my rear bumper) so that it swings flat. You think you'll have issues with all the weight on it being that it can't swing out "flat"? I'm not sure if that makes sense, I'm picturing it having to swing up and over the way you have it mounted.

i'm still undecided on whether or not to mount the tire on there simply because those 40's are surprisingly heavier than the 37s i had before and a pain to lift up that high, but it is a possibility

i'm not concerned about the gate being able to hold it because I've hung off it and i'm not exactly the lightest person around and the latch lines up perfect each time,

but i think i know what you're saying about it not swinging "flat" because of the forward angle it's mounted on it does swing upward slightly, or do you mean "flat" like down to the ground like the old Poison Spyder rear stinger tire mounts for "heeps" if you're familiar with those at all

made up some rear shocks mounts today from the factory mounts i had cut off the other ff14b, really simple to do and it's easier than trying to hold and line up individual tabs

just cut them flat leaving a small "band" on the backside that leaves them connected and grind a radius into the bottom of that "band" area so it sits flatter on the axle tube and welds better

No that's what I mean, it has to swing up in the air as it goes to the side of the truck.

got a few things done this weekend, painted and reinstalled the front bumper, finished up the rear shocks and got them in, installed my reman'd steering box with the hydro assist fittings, and got the fuel tank all squared away but still going to fab a beefy skid plate out of 1.5" tube and leftover diamond plate

got some cool updates, got my hydro assist working but need to change out 2 fitting to position the lines better, after cleaning the garage I found some old D ring mounts from my old square tube bumper that I forgot I saved and welded them up, and started fabbing skidplates off the 2 tcase/tranny crossmembers but ran out of welding wire before i could finish

I need another 90* fitting on the front and a 45* on the side because the straight fitting sends the line very close to the crank pulley

I'm going to plate over these with the 1/8" diamond plate I have

and the bars aren't spaced even because 1 won't clear the bottom of the 205 with equal spacing

Those turned out great! One day when I have my drivetrain finalized I'll whip up some crossmembers/skid plates.

my brother texted me today saying my front spool had arrived at my house and my BallisticFab diff covers and rear pinion guard are supposed to come in today

Cover looks great.

You ever finish that tire gate? I'm still interested to see if swinging "up and out" is a PITA or if it's not a big deal. I'm wanting to start on mine soon and I'm still not sure if I want to modify it so it swings flat or if I can stick to my original plan like you have yours.

thanks! too bad it won't stay that pretty forever:D

and still haven't finished the gate yet, i haven't decided whether or not to mount the tire on there not only because it might be a pain to swing it up and away but i'd need to angle the tire a good amount for it to not block the exhaust, but i think ill try a few things tomorrow and see what i come up with

i kinda struck an idea just now that i think may work:thinking:

Well heck ratchet strap the spare up on there tomorrow and swing it so we can see if it works with the weight on it. :)
