93 s15 extended cab

Need some help guys. Tommorrow morning I'm going to look at a 93 s15 extended cab for my Dad supposed to be a 4.3 4x4. Owner is asking $1000.00. Is it a vortec and what do I need to look for.

it should be a vortec. the vortecs have a tubular top intake and may have a cover in the middle that says "vortec". check the floor for rust and the cab corners also.

The CPI Vortec engine isn't all its cracked up to be. It does make more power over the TBI (195hp vs. 160hp) but there's problems with the injector module and carbon build-up in the intake - not to mention the electronic EGR.

The TBI engines are less hassle. The 'real' Vortec (SFI)started in '96.
