Just drove my Tahoe at night for the first time, and I must say, that was a terrifying drive! I remember the headlights on these trucks being pretty poor, but this was beyond bad!

I've got a set of high wattage PIAAs in the housings, relays setup to ensure they get a full 14 volts to them, and even have them wired for quad beams on hi beam, but they are still way too dim for my liking.

Other than the crap on ebay, is there any other decent options that will get me a nice bright light with a sharp cutoff so I am not blinding other drivers? I have 55W 4000K HIDs in my daily driver, and they are fantastic! I have proper ($$$$) housings in that truck that are designed for xenon lights and don't bother anyone with them.

Also, I refuse to run euro crap on my truck, if it has halos or any other bling, I won't use it :haha:

when I was still driving the '97 crewcab I found the same thing with the poor lights. I never looked that hard, but I didn't find anything immediately worthwhile either. but then again I didn't drive it long enough to care that much.

Your lenses are really what keeps you from putting some good HID's in there.

I'd do the headlight relay mod, same as the older trucks. It will be a world of difference.

My burb's headlights are a little on a bright/sloppy side due to the crappy lenses....but 1000x better than stock.

Well, after doing a bunch of research, I've settled on a set of TYC housings. They cost a bit, but the light pattern is supposed to be pretty good on them. They have a clear face and use the reflector on the back to direct the aiming.

I think just even having the clear faces will go a long way. The headlights on the tahoe right now are pretty badly clouded up.

And yup, putting in the relays to make the headlights get full a full 14V made a big difference. Hopefully the new housings make the truck driveable at night

Meguires plastix and a power ball make quick work of faded lenses.

Hell, even the parking lens on my 91 look like new after 5 min....

I had the same issue with mine, and I went for a set of the ebay specials. I gotta say, they are pretty good for the price. That being said, I'm going to upgrade to the TYC headlights when I can, I hear they're much better.

So just out of curiousity what makes the TYC stuff so good?

They take the time to make decent replacement lights that do better than the factory lights performance-wise.

Any update on this? And anyone using the TYC housings? If so, did they come with bulbs? From their site, it looks to be housings only.

Looking to upgrade my lighting on my '97 Suburban. Oklahoma deer tend to not look both ways before crossing the road...

I have clear lenses on my 98- did a good job, but not great. I did the 4 headlight mod, all 4 on when on high beams. That made the biggest difference.

I may go to HID's on the lows.

Housings only. Bulbs are cheap enough though, just the standard stuff.

Cornfield: I would HID the highs, that's where you need the lighting power, off in the distance where you have time to react. Some of the motor coaches I drive have HID low beams and there is a lot of backscatter, which becomes stressful to the eyes.
