'98 1 ton dodge...

That is one nice truck!!Hope you can get them down then you got a deal.

I'm going to call and get the pay-off on the k3500 in the morning and write down my deal... I'll swing by Monday during my break from school and see what we can do.

Well the Dodge is a no-go...

I went in this afternoon between classes and long story short they refused to budge on the price AND after talking $6k-7k range for my k3500 today they were talking $4-5k so I basically shook their hands and walked out.
They were fishing for an explanation for my sudden change of heart so I broke down the numbers and basically said I don't want to be $18k into an 11 year old truck regardless of the miles.
They didn't really seem to understand where I was coming from since all they kept saying was how nice the truck was and how low the miles were... but oh well, good luck to them! I bet it'll sit there for months at that price in this economy.

good for you, another will come along sooner than you think. don't worry. bummer though that they're idiots. :doah:

brows DTR there's lots of good trucks for sale on there. but may have to travel to get one. probably worth the travel in the end if you get the right price for the right truck. I know one guy here brought up a '97 2500 dodge from FLA. flew down and drove the sumbitch home to Alberta. was way ahead in the $$$ department in the end. and thats a monster drive.

Oh they understand alright, they just don't care about your situation. They are only in it for themselves, and will use every reason they can to talk you into it- doesnt matter to them that you'd have to live in the truck just to make ends meet.

if its automatic walk away. also another BIG BIG BIG thing was on the 98 12valve trucks. they had a issue with the engine block. it would crack and leak oil all over gods creation. im not sure where it is but there is a certein number or letter stamped on the block to tell if its the bad engine. just dont go buy it tommorow.RESEARCH go to a cummins forum it should be on there.

No its the 98.5 24valve trucks with the "53" casting in the block and the crack is not major they make a repair kit that can be done in truck

Avery theres nothing wrong with the auto's to increase durability you should consider a Convertor valvebody and deep pan and you'll be good for DD'ing and the towing you'll be doing

also if you buy it get a membership at TDR.com (think of it as a CK5 for cummins trucks)

Several years ago, I looked at a 1998 12 valve 2500 xcab long bed that was real clean here in town. They wanted middle 20s for the truck. It had been on the lot for over a month. I offered 19 and was told no go. I left my number and told them to call when ready to deal. They never called and a good friend watched it go through the auction for 16. You gotta love dealers.

I know it... your better of buying from a private owner. I bought a cherokee a while back that blue booked a 7k... walked off with the title after I waved 5k in her face.

You'd think in this economy they'd be chomping at the bit just to sell a rig... not jacking up the price and waiting for someone who want's pay 3k over what it's worth.

1998 12v 4wd, $9000, 137000 miles, slight tranny mods, #8 plate, 3k gsk, delivery valves, k&n, 4" exhaust, line-x on bed, bumper, and rocker panels, 3" lift with springs, new 35 atz's on 10" wheels, tinted windows, winch bumper. slight rust under drivers door is only trouble spot on truck.

OK OK its in Maine, but still they're out there for a good price. keep the eyes peeled theres actually a bunch of '98 12v currenty for sale on DTR.........and you don't need to buy a membership for info.

Alot of people dislike the vp-44. I have an air dog 150 and have a constant 15 psi and have had 0 problems out of mine. took me a year to find mine. I wanted an 02 so I could have disk brakes and no 53 block. I picked up a longbed ext cab 4x4 manual laramie with 58k for 12. I love my truck so much and I am sure you will love yours too. I drive nothing but manuals and driving a manual diesel is so much differant because you cannot stall it. but I have some friends that only drive autos and most of the time even if i make more power a quick shifting auto is much faster.

I had 5 VP44s on my '98.5 by the time it had 150,00km. the last 2 was with FASS and the last 1 was an HRVP44.

I also have never put one on my 02 HO also my father is still on the orignal vp with his 99 5spd. It's wierd that some work seemingly forever (we both have over 180k) and some don't. I know a guy that was on his 3rd before 100k but he was also on his 3rd chip. My Dad's is completly stock and mine was chipped for about 1 year.
