'99 4 Door Tahoe SAS Build, Taking it back a few years

If you didn't break any hard parts, I don't know that you need to look for something other than another 4L60. Just get one with upgraded parts and I think you'd be just fine. Maybe add some extra cooling.

I tend to agree with this especially if you’re adding a reduction box.

You may be right, but I need a trusted transmission builder. Trans shops are on every corner like convenient stores around here. And none are open very long before they change hands, or have a good reputation.

I agree here. A lot of times in the off-road world we have a tendency that when something breaks (even if it's lasted quite a while to hard abuse) we immediately think we have to go to a drastic upgrade...when in all reality, you could just pretty much fix the part that broke with the same "new" part and be just as happy. I always laugh when I see people on the interwebs say, "Well, I broke a stock d60 30 spline stub shaft...I guess it's time to upgrade to Axletech's!" :rotfl:

Greg is in Weatherford. Dropping a truck off there Monday. So far he has been great to deal with.

Brad's Transmissions is a little closer to you. They are off 110 in Whitehouse.
He's been in business for 20+ years and does decent work.

I think an upgraded 4L60 will be good. And a big azz cooler
I agree on a bigger cooler. Keeping an automatic cool is extremely important. But at no time did this one ever heat up. Climbed quickly to 185 and never saw it near or cross 200. That just leads me to believe it was put together poorly. This trans was rebuilt (supposedly) right before I bought the Tahoe. I’ve put 30k miles on it since.
I don’t want to go through this again in another 30k.

There’s always a possibility of no Doubler this year, which would probably make half the decision on the transmission

I'd keep the 4l60. I'd also get Greg Ducato involved with the rebuild considering your locale.

Magnum isn't the only option out there for doubler.

A suggestion for the winch. Cut the grille and move it back. I have done that quite a bit even 2" back is a huge improvement in approach angle.

Your rig from what I have seen is setup pretty good. Just time to optimize things

Keep the '60 and put 4L70 internals in it. You keep the same low first gear but the hardware is closer to the 4L80 in strength.

I agree with staying 4l60. Use upgraded internals 4l70spec as noted and run with it. As long as you got a vortec 350 you aren't going to stress it too bad.

Well the bigger tires on that Texas sized ass is a concern.
Probably a bit of work adding a 4500. But it helps the lowest gear ratio unlike a 4L80
