Well, I got to play on Sunday in the garage. Saturday was the wife's B-day, so I didn't even attempt to open up the garage door. She has been a really good trooper through the last couple of years with me in the garage every weekend and a lot of week nights, so it was her day.

So, Sunday, by the end of the day, I wanted to kick my own a$$. I think that I created the word UGLY that day. You decided...

Ended up getting my M/T's that are really cool. Was pretty excited, so I ended up blasting a serp set up that I bought some time ago. Had everything really clean and shot it with a little green. Kinda bolted it up, just to take a look. The AC is backwards but it holds the pump for some visualization. I wanted to go with a York where the AC is, but it's just too UGLY.

I can't go with the March set up, just to blingy.. Maybe the Kwik performance would look better, but it all stands so high on the engine. I think that I'm moving this thing back to period correct v-belts.

New VC...Cool

Watcha think...:dunno:

I'll admit, the AC compressor does look a little crazy high, but the alt side looks fine to me. of course I think things will look a lot better once you have everything else in the engine bay, so I wouldn't obsess over it too much just yet. it may just look too high because there is nothing else around it yet.

Holy tall compressor batman. I think it could be lowered a lot, but I wouldn't rule it out until you get the front clip on, it will look a lot lower with everything else higher than that. But yeah that AC mount is really high, looks like more of a narrow, tall, hotrod type mount.

What I did is take a mount from a 94 BB TBI truck, its similar to yours, except the tensioner is on the drivers side and its a littler lower on the ALT I think. Then I threw away the entire passenger side, and made my own out of aluminum plate for a york. It was much lighter, lower, and it looked right.

Where in the world did you get that A/C bracket? Looks like it came off of a medium duty truck????? the normal 94-95 TBI A/C bracket mounts the compressor down a little lower and out and looks a whole lot better. The alt-p/s bracket looks good and will work good as well.

OK, I'm not the only one then...:haha:

I bought everything from a friend who had it on a 454. He hates the serp set up and was not going to use it. I really didn't take a look at it as we were doing a job for him and we had it under plastic.

I should have looked a little bit more before I brought out my wallet, I guess..:doah:

I first put on the alt bracket and was all cool with it. I liked it. By the time I figured out the AC side and how high it sat, I really couldn't believe it. I kept going back to the pics that he sent me, way back when, to make sure I had it installed correct. Well it is..

Thanks for some better dates to look up and find something a little less.....UGLY:pimp:

Ewwwwww...... Do not want!

:)

That is crazy looking and not in a good way. Went you pop the hood to show someone the motor all you're going to see are pulleys and that ginormous compressor.

I struggled with the aesthetics of the accessory mounts a lot. I didn't want anything visually higher than the valve covers, so I spent a substantial amount of time building brackets that would keep everything tight to the block and as low as possible. The alternator will be upper left, A/C will be lower left and the Howe PS pump tucks in tight on the lower right.

With all the time you are spending to get things "just right" it would be a shame to use that serpentine setup and clutter things up. I agree with you about the March stuff....too blingy. For me, the v-belt was the best balance of function and aesthetics.

You know it's just hard to argue with something like this.

It's pretty amazing, Greg. I have no clue how many times I've been through your thread (a Lot), but I learn something new every time. This is exactly what I had envisioned. Everything sitting below the VC's. Why else buy another set if nobody will ever be able to see them?

I know that it's probably somewhere in your thread, but what are you doing with OBA?

Thanks Mike, you are too kind....

Chip Foose likes to say that he treats the engine bay like a jewelry box, and the engine is the jewel.... presented beautifully in the center. I always thought that was a good analogy. Anything extraneous in the engine compartment, whether it's a lot of extra hoses, wire looms or brackets will just detract from the clean presentation of the engine and the nice details like the valve covers, etc.

For my OBA, I'm going to use an electric setup. I can't remember exactly which compressor (maybe Viair?) but there was something I found that was a really rugged, 100% duty-cycle version that should give me the reliability I need.... maybe I will use two smaller units so that I don't have a single-point-of-failure in the system. I was planning to add some sort of airtank also so that I'd have some reserve and won't have to listen to the compressors very often on the trail.

The problem I have with the engine-mounted OBA is that they are so ugly and large.... and personally I just couldn't get past the aesthetic issues.

Ultimately I'll hide the electric compressors in sealed compartments under the truck, and I'll put my batteries in some sort of compartments too. That will really keep the engine compartment looking clean and will make it easier to build the removeable front clip; I want to make sure that everything will still look decent even when it's in "transformer mode".

Thank you for the reply. :waytogo:

Just like everything else on this build. It will take a lot of time and research to get what I have pictured in my head, for me to actually be happy with it.

So, with out further adieu, who wants to buy a recently media blasted, zinc chromated, bad a$$ serp set up.... :D

I know you guys have had your eyes on it.

PayPal approved.. :pimp:

Whats ur price on it? Its quite ugly.... But if everythings there already.....

Edit: im retarted u have a big block lol. Or will they interchange?

Digging the new valve covers:waytogo: I have to agree that that particular serp belt setup looks, well, not right:rolleyes: I will never go back to v-belts though. Too much of a pain. You could always make your own serp belt brackets... Not much more work than making your own v-belt brackets:dunno:

Thanks Man. I like the new/old M/T VC's too. I didn't mind the old ones, but these add a little old skool class with them. Speaking of the "Old Skool", I really think that she's gunna go back to the V-belts. Just to make sure, I'm sending the green serp set-up to Eric to use on his tow rig. I figure if it's outa here, I can't use it..:waytogo: :haha:

Just a quick question. I had five minutes to run through a junk yard yesterday to see if I could find some brackets. I came across a beat up old 6.2 blazer. Pried the hood up and held it up with one arm to take a look. The springs were gone and the hood all crinkled up so it was a little rough. But here it is, I know that the hood emblem said 6.2, but the block looked like a BB. All of the induction was gone so it was hard to tell. It had all of the pulleys still down in there though. If it was a 6.2, do those brackets still work on a BB? I'm thinking that somebody switched the block out at some time, but really don't know. If I have time tomorrow between inspections I'm going to head back and take a better look.

I think the quick answer is Yes. I have a SB w/ all the 6.2 brackets on it.

Glad I could help! :D:D

I don't mind it being ugly cause the tow rigs hood hopefully will only go up very occasionally

Yep, I did find that out. I always thought that the 6.2 would be bigger than a SM. Never really looked at one before. Anyways, it's a no-go for my set up, but thanks for the answer.

Glad I could help! :D:D

I think that it will work perfect for you. I'll try to get it boxed up this week. All weekend was spent on the yard doing a little spring cleaning.

By the way, I cleaned the exterior of my garage door. I knew it was starting to look a little dirty being rolled up while working in the the garage and catching all of the grinder dust and what-not. I really can't believe how dirty it was. It looks like a brand new white door again.

Mr. Clean magic erasers and a water FTW. :waytogo:

I did escape Saturday morning to pick this up off of CL for $100 bucks though. Works really good and isn't huge for my packed garage. :woot:

Awsome fab work on everything! I found your thread in a search for Lizard Skin reviews and after reading through all 62 pages I was hoping you had sprayed it already :doah: I guess will just have to enjoy the rest of the awesomeness of your build while I wait

Thank you for the kind words, sir. :waytogo:

As far as the Lizard skin, the only one that I know that has applied it yet is vtblazer.

I'm definitely going to be going with this product on the bottom of the tub though.

After playing and fighting with the exhaust this past week, it's going to be really close to the bottom of the floor boards by the doubler. I have really no choice but to do it this way.

I ordered a set of ball and socket exhaust flange and reducers this morning to shorten up the ends of the headers and hopefully bring the exhaust a lot closer to the floor. I have 13" between the end of the header and the front of the 205. It's going to be a pretty good sweep up to clear everything. Hopefully it will all work out.. :dunno:

Thanks for the link :waytogo:. I forgot I was subscribed to that thread :doah:
I think I'll be doing just about the very same thing as Vtblazer did.

For the exhaust, if its real close to the floor you might want to think about and insulation pad between it and the floor.
