That would be nice. I hate changing the thing around from the brake, back to the press and back again. Those new plates that I bought from Swag are no joke either. They make the ones that came with the press look like they came from a kids tool kit.

I have some 1.5" plate I am using for the bottom plate, I will post it, just hard to find someone to cut the 1.5" plate for me, well its not hard to find someone to do it, but its hard to find someone to do it for free :D

Still need to buy the bottle jack though, think I might just put the HF jack from the press on it and buy an air jack for the press

Pictures are good..... :)

Keep going, my friend!

Thanks guys, it's starting to come along.

Paul, it's the new Zeon 12,000 from warn.

Made the pass side yesterday. Almost ready to cut down the cage bars and make a top for the gusset box things. After I know that everything will thread back in after I weld all the nuts to the inside, I'll close her up for good and move onto the front recov points and winch. I still have the back side of both of these boxes just tacked in. I want to be able to open it back up so I can get some good welds on the inside nuts.

and a shot of the inside. The drivers inner is a little further along with some of the down bolts and the steering box bolts already installed.

It just feels like a good day to be weldin' and grindin' in the garage..:waytogo: :D

Woke up to -4F today.... Made me miss those so called "winter" days in the bay area....

I'll have to fire up the heater it he garage a few hours early tomorrow, and even after 8 hours the floor will still be icy cold. :doah:

Damn Mike, your fab skills seem to be getting exponentially more impressive  This ought to turn out pretty fantastic! Sorry I haven't poked my head in here lately, I've been a bit distracted, but I'm glad to finally catch up.

It's been a little colder around here. Just about 27 every morning and then getting up to mid to low 50's. A small flame on the heater gets the garage up to 65-68 no problem.

I remember the suck that the winters would bring when you wanted to work on your car from growing up in MN. We had a full size furnace in the garage with a can of kerosene sitting on the workbench feeding the fire. It would take a couple of hours to heat that place up. Just enough to where you could take off the Carhart jacket and work with some thin layers on.

Never did heat up the slab enough to where it was nice to lay on though.

Sean, thanks bud. No worries on my part. Just good to see ya around when you can with your lack of the interwebs over there.

Got a question for you guys. I was out in the garage last night getting ready to cut the front of the framehorns for the bumper and 1" BL. Without putting everything back together, it's tough to know how far back the bottom of the bumper needs to go. I think that the ends of the bumper were a perfect 90* vertical, but can't really remember. Anybody with the stock bumper and a pic from the side would be great.

And one more on the recovery points. I bought some clevis's last night and I'm thinking that they are way to big. 1" bolt with a (I think) 8" clevis. What are you guys running on your rigs? With that, how thick is the metal on the recov points themselves? I can run a 1" flat bar (picked up a 1"x 4" x5' yesterday) in the framerails now. If I need to go thicker, I can bring out the two box pieces on each side of the flat bar to give it 1 1/2 thickness.

Whatcha think?

Thanks Chris, :waytogo:

That should help me out today out in the garage.

Seen the thread. Sorry to hear that your rig is dead again. Hopefully the smart guys can help ya figure it out.

Mike, your doing killer work man!

Nicely done!

Use the screw pin ones Mike, when you are out on the trail someone will need a shackle, always. Just makes it easier.

I think the ones you posted are called safety pin

Thanks Dave. :waytogo: It seems like it's taking forever though..:doah:

Those were the ones that I was looking at first off. They say not very good for vibration though. I didn't want to lose anything on the trail. That's when I seen the ones with the nut and pin. I was thinking of just using a cotter pin through it. Should be very easy to come off that way and should stay on while driving around. :dunno:

Probably ended up with the last bit of progress for awhile. Traveling B-Ball starts up this week and it looks like at least the next two weekends will be tournaments.

Ended up getting the recov points mocked up for the time being. I think that I'll need to trim the bottom of them a little so they will fit in the bumper just right. What do you guys think, 1/4" worth of gap in the bumper around these?

Couple of pics through the weekend.

Drivers side in.

On drivers side you can see that I brought out the inside plate too. Still need to do this on the pass side.

AAA858258.jpg

I might even add some too the frame. That would not be welded to the rest if it though. I guess it all depends on what shackles/clevis I buy and how thick the opening is.

AAA858244.jpg

and what they look like on the inside so far.

Nice tight fit.

and a cool shot of the pup. Here is Midas at ten weeks old. He wants this done so he can go for a ride.

A little side project for my son on Sunday. Was fun to have him out there in the garage.

sweet, beefy..... :waytogo: I know the amount of work involved in cutting/shaping/grinding all that steel...

cute pooch.... :D

deja-vu.....

The screw pins ones won't come out.

I know quite a few guys running em on daily driven rigs. Only reason they have lost one is because some one forgot to give it back after they used it.

Well they might but I really really doubt it. Ask anyone who hasn't used theirs in a couple months, usually have to get an additional tool to loosen em up

Mine on the back of my k10... they were on the front of my Landcruiser for 7 years befor that. Never had any trouble getting them off by hand.:dunno:

I lost a screw pin on the trail once. Now I have some safety clips that won't let the screw back out.

keep up the good work bro! you're the one keeping this forum alive! :)
