Figuring, I only posted the one pic up of the welded winch mount, I took a couple more last night. Even got one bolt in each fender to see how it looks.

picfest...:woot:

Next up, figuring how to make the freespool work..

That's it..:D

Looks awesome Mike!

BTW, how long until you ditch the vacuum brake booster and go hydroboost like the rest of us?

I need to read back up on your and Ash's thread's to figure out how to do it. It is on the list for sure though...

Second thought..... You head down with us and fab up how to make it work and I don't have to read.... I like this idea better. :deal: :saweet:

 :D

I like your style!

I can't believe that I'm actually getting the thumbs up from you on this. :haha: The whole look should hopefully come out pretty classy. Man, I'd love to actually build one that was not tin foil thin with the same look.

Don't get me wrong I still think your gonna fold it like me jumping on a Mt. Dew can and have to build something stouter. also your gonna damage one of your fenders doing it.

Judging by the pics, eventually you plan on having the winch feed out through the bumper like where the license plate is now? I'm assuming either there is a hole you haven't cut yet or I'm missing something. :dunno:

It looks F'ing fantastic with the fenders hanging up there! Starting to look like a truck again. :thumb:

I wonder how hard it would be to build a more stout bumper that was designed to have the stock bumper bolted onto it so you get the look and the strength...

Yep, you are correct sir. I need to put the bumper in the right spot before I can continue with the build. Now that the fenders are sitting on there it should be easy.

I need to then build a small standoff in front of the winch plate that will hold the fairlead. Still looking for one that can handle the steel cable for now. I want to switch it all over to rope later on.

The plan is to give the bumper some more strength after the fairlead and freespool handle are done. That's why those fangs are still on the very top of the plate.

From those "fangs" a 1" tall piece will be built on top of the frame for the body lift vs. bumper attachment. I'll then go on the outside of the frame, between the hanger and shackle with a plate that uses the same two bolts that hold everything together up there. From those plates, tubes will shoot out the length of the bumper, giving it some strength. I want to use the two holes in the bumper, out towards the ends to attach all of this together.

cool. I like the plan for the bumper. I have a new stock rear bumper I've had sitting around for like 10 years trying to decide what to do with it. the rear bumper I have on now is stout, but not too purdy. I'll watch what you do on yours and hopefully get some ideas on beefing mine up enough to where I feel comfortable using it.

this thread is full of badassness!

Thanks Dave, appreciate it. :waytogo:

I wish you were doing yours first so I could just copy it. :doah: :haha:

And I thought my Cummins added some weight up front!!! Looks great!:woot:

LOL, yep added a few to the rig, that is for sure. At some point when I'm done with all of this, I'll put it on a scale.

Maybe we can have a contest to see how much useless weight Mike added to his rig. Winner gets a case of neer or something. :pimp:

Spent most of the weekend sitting in front of the truck figuring out a plan of attack for the front. I basically have a plan of a desert tube racer type bumper that will be totally hidden by the existing. The front will only really be used for looks.

Don't really know if it will all work, but I did cut up a couple of tubes and some plates to start. Hopefully, I can build the same thing that I have in my head.

Couple of pics of something, but really nothing so far. :D

Note the two added bumper bolts on the drivers side.

Some starter plates.

Maybe I can get two tubes to work on this.. all just mock up.

And another one going from side to side, behind everything..:dunno:

And where the side plates will be bolted down at.

Awesome plan!!!

Love checking in on your build!!
Nice choice for the updated avitar too.:waytogo:

Your bumper idea is a cool one and very doable.
Looking forward to see how it works out.

Amazing progress as usual!

looks like you're going to beat me to it. :P Without a bender or press I can't do much along those lines.

A little bump. :o

Really have not worked on the rig in awhile. Still bending some metal and burning it in, just on other projects. Been building some lumber racks and whatnot for the guys.

Feels good to still play, just needed a break from the rig for sometime. That front end kinda did me in. I'd like to finish up one of the lumber racks this weekend and start to finish up the bumper fab on mine. It would be nice to have at least the bars mocked up. I have the plates already mounted to the sides of the frame, bolted in and the plates on the interior of the bumper. Just need to get some tube in there. :thumb:

I did get these last night from the brown Santa. Added a 1' and a 1.5" to the mix. This will work out nice for the seat bars, grab bars and console once I move back to the middle.

Tools are cool. :woot:

Good stuff dude! I wish I lived in the states so I could justify a bender purchase now. I just don't want to make my dad store any more of my crap, plus it'd probably rust in the next couple years.

I did get a tube quote from that vw place locally. Was told $30/10ft + $3 per bend. Didn't seem terrible to me. The largest they go is 1.5"... thought that would be alright. If you think that's reasonable, can you send me measurements for your cage? I'd pretty much like to copy it if you're alright with that. I've wanted to get a cage in it anyways, but the upcoming doubling of power has me a little worried for the poor body:whistle:

I know most of you guys have seen these from the book of faces (The debil), but pretty happy that my welds are starting to look a bit better. This is a little ladder rack for one of my guys mini cargo trailers. Figuring I really never touched a welder before I started to cut into the rig, I feel that they have improved some what. :thumb:

Yeah, my bender from sitting outside, has a little rust on her know. I keep the dies inside, so all is good. I figured a little patina on the bender, might keep it at my house vs. someone taking it.

I really wouldn't go with 1.5 on rigs of our size. From doing a ton of reading when I built mine, 1.75 would be the minimum for a full size rig and that's pushing it some.

You know I'll help ya out with anything you need. Between some pics and a couple of phone calls, we could dial it in pretty good, I'm thinking. :pimp:
