Mike, please tell me you got the steering box squared away and just left it off this picture.

Steering and brakes are both overrated. :D

I was actually going to keep it a big secret, but I guess the cat is out of the bag. :doah:

I wasn't worried about the steering box, because I have something else up my sleeve.

If you're old enough, you may remember the original green machines and the awesome steering. I kinda have that in mind. :woot::saweet:

The way that I see it. I could make a big plate just behind the winch and before the oil pan. This plate made out of 1/4" plate would be attached to the frame rails. From there I could use some parts from a skid steer or backhoe to lock this all in place. Some of you might have seen these parts holding the buckets on the machinery. As it will be tough to know exactly where the steering axle is pointed, at least for guest drivers, I was thinking of setting this all up with a gauge on the dash.

Oh, I've been thinking of calling this base plate "The Mongoloid."

Watcha think, will it work??:dunno:

I just about crapped myself from laughing so hard!!! :haha:

Most people who quit smoking get all grumpy and irritable but it seems to have the opposite effect on you... That or you are now addicted to funny pills and are about to O.D. (based on your last post)

Seek professional help. I'll be busy cleaning coffee off my iPad.

waiting on Greg's response...

It took him long enough, didn't it.

I say awesome! Levers rule!

Gotta admit, that would be fun. Too bad you're to young to remember the awesomeness of the Green Machine. :D

MONGLOID you know you just named your truck right?

That may hurt mooslim feelers, so we'll have to think about that one. :thumb:

Green machine steering!! That's freakin awesome.

You know it would be, cuz you're old enough to remember the pure awesomeness of the Green Machine. :woot: :saweet:

I'm kinda partial to the Big Wheel, of which there really was NO steering.

Especially when your plastic tread wore down to nothin'. You could be pulled by your buddy on a bike as fast as all get out.... He'd turn, you'd go strait, till the rope got taught and threw ya down the street like sliding into home plate. :yikes: :screwy:

I was sick yesterday, so it was prolly the drugs. :wink1:

On a serious note... It looks like I should be OK with the tube. I went out to the shed and dragged out the old steering linkage in my bathrobe and skivvies. Opened up the garage, grabbed some wire and hooked her on up. I may have to push the top of the shock tube out a hair for droop on the pass side, but I think that I'll have enough clearance.

Curious....who got a visual of me in my bathrobe. :dunno:

yep, I thought so... :sign9:

I'm getting an image of Randy Quaid from "Christmas Vacation".....

Short bathrobe, fuzzy hat with earflaps and a can of beer..... pumping out the septic.

"Sh*tter was full......"

Yep.

oh yeah..... and a 15* bend in that steering shaft will give you all the shock clearance you'll need.

That will only work for 1/2 of one full rotation of the steering wheel, correct?

Did ya get your MotoMetal's yet?

Correct. For clearance on the other 1/2 you'll need to notch it.

MotoMetal is on national backorder for the 22s that I want. How'm I going to get the bro-truck look with a set of white steelies??? :dunno:

A '69 Build... "Hidden Winch/Engine Cage Almost Done"

Not sure how I managed to derail the thread so bad. The conventional steering option looks good and looks like it'll work too. :)

I know. Why did you do that?? I'd never do that to your thread. :D

Been sick as can be lately. It's been a lot of on the couch, feeling like crap and flipping out from the boredom. I finally couldn't take it any more yesterday and did two shifts out in the garage. The first was from 6-8 am and the second was from 1-6, with a big nap in between.

Ended up with the drivers side cage pretty much done. Need to do a little more work on the bar over the dizzy with two diagonals going to it in the corners, but other than that, It's close to being done.

Should be getting my seats in this week, so hopefully some more progress.

Here you can see that my bar somehow shortened during the flange install. The pass side cope is huge now. :doah:
