Sorry Gents, looks like I'm late to my own "no update", update party...:haha:


Really been busy, just not on the truck...kinda.

Last weekend my boy and I headed down to Paso Robles to check out one of my customers shop. Her husband died about three years ago in a boating accident doing about 140 mph. Anyways the guy was pretty much a genius with a full machine shop at his house. She has sold some of the stuff, but still has a couple lathes and a 20" grinder that I've been looking for forever.

I asked her before we headed down if it was all three phase, but she didn't know. Did a little research and a call to Greg to get the skinny on converting it over. After a bit of knowledge we still headed down just hoping that it was single phase.


Saturday she opened up the shop and WOW... this place was cool. still had one of his boats and the remaining tools. Checked the plates on them and sure enough, all were three phase..... Damn..:doah:

I did spy an old Pexto anvil thingy that I really want. She wouldn't let it go then, but I'm still working on her. :D

It looks pretty much like this Ebay item, just doesn't have all of the attachments tho. Looks like you can pick them up pretty easy after looking around.

After getting home, it's been full steam ahead on a pop the top fire damage home now that the rain has stopped. Hopefully have 50% of the home dried in tomorrow and start the framing on the other half. Really trying to push this one.




And the worst saved for last. Before I even left, my Miller was acting up some. Figuring I've never changed the liner, I brought her in for a little TLC. Took it home, hooked up the gas, plugged it in and flipped the switch....


Big glowing lights out the back of your welder is never a good thing. :whistle:

He thought that it was the switch on the back. It's actually a "Supplementary Protection" switch. Well I just came back in from the garage after installing the new one....


Suck...... it's still dead. All you can hear is a little clicking noise from the motherboard. Back to the welding shop tomorrow it goes.


So that mean no progress this weekend I'm sure. :(

That's about all I have for my "No Update", update..:D

Going to eat and crash.. This carpentry chit is pretty draining for the fat guy that I have become. :doah::rolleyes::tongue1:
 
Do you have 3 phase on your street? If its available you'll probably have to upgrade your service to a business class service which means far more $$$
 
Dropped off the welder at the shop yesterday....:rolleyes:


They said they can't even look at it for a couple of weeks....apparently there is in influx of broke down welders at the moment... :mad:



So it looks like I'll be getting about as much done on the rig as Greg does for the next couple of weeks.. :whistle: :doah:


This is going to suckkkkkkk....... :popcorn:

Been pretty busy here, new suspension installed - steering conversion installed and even got the old carb'd engine pulled to make room for the injected version :whistle:

Goin' at this project like a hobo on a ham sandwich!

We still have almost 2ft of snow on the ground too :screwy::screwy:

Honestly, not really. After four years, everything is pretty dang clean by now. I did play around with the huge gas tank after I shot it with a little RG. But even this takes my welder to fab up the mounts. Once you start to make damn near everything a one off on the rig, it's really hard to go back to bolt-on's.



I talked to the welding shop yesterday. I guess that I blew up the fan motor. It should be in today or tomorrow and they will put me on the list again for install. I tell ya if I don't have it this weekend, I'll start to flip out. :eek1: :tongue1:

Yeah, it seems like a lot of us are sitting on the sidelines right now. :doah: I had hoped that Greg would have caught up by now, so I can just copy some of his badassesness, but that has not happened either. :rolleyes: :D

I've been sitting in the 69-72 closet for years. :thumb: Hopefully, I'll have a real update next week.

I did get my sons room rewired, insulated, drywalled, taped, textured and primed within the last couple of weekends. His room caught on fire due to a extension cord last year that was running his fish tank. The original plan was after we got back from the Canada CK5 party, we would start on it. Unfortunately for him, the console took precedence.. :confused: :haha:
 
At the very least you should do a quick inventory of other "consumables" in your shop and make sure you have extra stuff like welding wire, full bottles of welding gas, welding tips, flapwheels, cutoff wheels, etc.

The only thing worse than waiting so long for your welder repair, would be getting it back and then running out of wire 2 minutes after you started welding with it again!!!!

FWIW -> Yesterday we had an ice storm. Today for the first time all year it will be 50+ degrees and sunny..... this is supposed to continue through the week and weekend.

I might roll up the garage doors before too much longer and let some fresh air into the workshop. :D

I hear ya on the consumables. That would suck. The weekend just before she blew, I dropped $350 on new flaps, cut-offs, roloc disks, full tank, new liner for the gun and all. Man I was ready... I think that is why it's driving me so nutz.

Heck, I even cleaned the garage since then... all except the beer fridge. That thing is pretty nasty inside. :whistle: :haha:

Kinda a pain in the ass update, as I get to type this with one hand.

As a lot of you know from the book of faces, I took a spill off a beam we were setting on a commercial building, falling about 15', breaking my wrist and screwing up my left leg.

Unable to push forward with the normal fab work, I'm trying to switch gears and still get some stuff done.

Finally sat down one day for about 6 hours to learn and figure out if LEDs will work with my plan. Ordered some 9"ers from super bright with Cree lights. I guess they are some of the best.

Anyways, I tore open the box and fired one up during the day. Needless to say, I was not very impressed.

So I sat a chair next to the beer fridge waiting for it to get dark out. Man, what a difference... these little guys rock.

And on to what I think could be a cool idea. You guys tell me what ya think. I have two, one for the back and this one for the front, in basically the same config of a flip up light.















So the plan is to go into surgery tomorrow to get some screws and stuff in the wrist. Saturday morning, I have a guy coming over to re-install the Detroit in the rear and install my HAD 14 and 60 driveline flanges.

I paid Jess some two years ago for the shafts, just never got him the measurements. Then the beginning of next week she goes in for full exhaust system. This won't be full welded in yet, so I can take it apart as the build goes on. The biggest thing is getting over the doubler with hopefully 3". I may need to do a little floor work on the pass side, which in turn would prolly mean a little seat cradle work too.


It will be nice to know everything works out in that area.

So without the ability to do anything really, I'm still doing stuff. :D

I was texting Greg last night, telling him that this might have been one of the best things for the rig. Really pushing on the other part of the list that doesn't require the flap wheel. I would have just kept pushing this stuff off forever,,

Now I can't.. :pimp:

I really want to do a lap around the block here in the next couple of months, then blow it apart for body and paint.

Holy geez Mike!! Take it easy for a bit and heal up. The rig's not going anywhere.
