Hopefully the gown is nomex with the amount of grinding Mike does... :flipoff7:

Dude, I paid you...........You promised you wouldn't....:doah:

:D

On another note, I came into work, just so I could leave early. :waytogo: Picking up the boy from school early to help me get the rig ready for travel. She goes in for exhaust tomorrow. Man, I sure hope 3" will work around the doubler. If not, it's time for the :grind: on the floor boards and possibly the pass side seat cradle.

No not the hospital gown. I really like the tube work and how the dash bar is below the dash for maximum visibility. I am just not going to add all the overkill tubes. Did you ever have kert turn you custom solid pucks? Just wondering because I am going to solid mount as well.

I do believe that I would get my ass kicked for going single around here...so dual it is... :D

.

I'll play the opposite side of the argument.

3" exhaust is 7.07 sq in of area in cross-section. Dual 3" exhausts therefore give you ~ 14 sq in of area in cross-section for flow.

If you want to merge them into a non-restrictive single exhaust, you only need to make sure that you meet or exceed that cross-sectional area.

Ex.

4" single = 12.56 sq in
4.25" single = 14.17 sq in
4.5" single = 15.89 sq in.

Admittedly, that's a pretty large hose to route under your truck, but if things get too complicated around the transfercase, you may need to cross over to the driver's side with both tubes then either run them as parallel "duals" down that side, or merge them into a single LARGE exhaust.

I wouldn't panic about it if it were my truck. I may end up with a single... just depends how things work out.

I wouldn't blame you if it had to be single. I bet it would be a heck of a lot less a PITA.

Or you could do zoomies through the hood! :haha:

nothing wrong with single other than the gheyness/nuisance of having a Y-pipe...

Well, she is not at home for the first time in four years.

My daughters boyfriend, who works at this shop, also does towing too. So while I was at work, he opened up the garage, loaded it on the flat bed and took her to the muffler shop. These guys are great and always have a ton of cool projects they are working on.

After work I headed over to go over things with Glen the owner. He had seen the rig in the past when he came over to take a look before it built the doubler mount. I had some questions at the time if there would be enough room.

Once he had seen me after he walked out of the office, his first words were...."So, did you start doing meth around the same time that you started bending tube?":eek1: :haha:

After I assured him that it was just a lot of beer that caused all of the overkill tube work, we looked at the rig. All in all, it looks like I'm going with 2.5" dual all the way back behind the rear tires. He is going to bend the pipe so it will be barely visible from the sides. This, I hope should help from crushing the exhaust going over a rock or log as the ass end drops off.

He had some great ideas to go with the tube size. Better sound, more torque, more room and way less echo. Being one not to argue with a professional, I gave him the go ahead. He ordered up the stuff for install tomorrow. I told him that I didn't want this super loud at all. We are going to start with the 4x9x14" magnaflows. If that's too loud, he explained its a lot easier to go bigger, than to go smaller with the mufflers later on.

So the plan is for install tomorrow and load it back up. I made a call over to Jess, to see if he will be around tomorrow afternoon. If we get done in time, we can run it up to Jess so he can take a look, make sure all is good, then he'll get all of his measurements for the drive shafts. :woot:

One thing I did see under the rig walking around is all of the loose ends I have down there. It was really nice looking at everything and not being on my back for once. Hopefully with the install of the d shafts and exhaust, I'll be able to lock a lot more of this stuff down finally.

The only two things that I see for sure that maybe a problem is one of the mounts on the doubler mount will need to be moved for the front d shaft and the future anti wrap bar.

Question: can I make the anti wrap dead center over the rear shaft? I always see it on one side or the other. Maybe off a backbone or something like that, that Kurt makes. Or like Adams new truss with the wrap bar on top of that?

Some pics to catch us up.

A sweet rig on 42's, Casey ( daughters boyfriend) showed up in yesterday. His friends and him switch vehicles up like no others I've seen.

All cleaned up for the dance.

And loaded up

On the rack.

And me new order just came in. Retractable for the fronts and regular 4 points for the backs.

It looks like this plan might actually work out. :D :waytogo:

looking good man!

looking at this pic those D rings look freakin' massive!

The red 6 pack looks a lot like KidJethro's...

Nice to see some progress Mike, can't wait to see how it turns out, and hear how it sounds after! :waytogo:

I know why you wanted dual 3" BTW. Just pure jealousy (of my ultra high mile weak-ass 350)...:flipoff7:

Pics of the "empty nest"!!!! :deal:

What a great time to hook up the compressed air and nozzle attachment and blow out YEARS of grinding dust from your shop.

Hook up the Graco airless sprayer and shoot the whole interior of the shop with some KILZ or some other bright white paint. The rest of the build will be SO much nicer with the extra brightness and cleanliness.

Personal male endowment divided by the number of seats in the rig, correct? :dunno:

Did yours have two seats, or was it just the one.

Man I'd love too, but still have the broken wing. Moving stuff around is still pretty much out of the question still.

Down the road I'll slather this place in white, just not now.

On to today...............

Go long tube, they said....
They're bolt in, they said...

Not so much for front driveshaft clearance..

It's close, but tomorrow, she should be finished. :woot: Had to put off the trip to HAD until tomorrow.

Funny.

What fun would it be on a fully custom truck to bolt on a set of off-the-shelf headers?

It's a weird feeling chopping up brand new parts (I've done that for brand new headers and expensive Blazer bedsides...) but you gotta do what you gotta do! :waytogo:

Can't wait to see the vids of this bada$$ 496 idling and growling!

After driveshafts, what's left on the punch list to get it driving? :dunno:
