It's looking pretty nice, excellent work.

Are you going to bend a bar that goes behind the license plate to connect the two sides at the bottom? I think it would add a lot of strength and should be hidden behind the license plate bracket.

And welcome to the strongest stock bumper you will never see but is right in front of you

I applaud the madness sir.

It will be pretty cool if it all works out. At this point I have a good feeling that it should come out as planned. A simple hidden tube bumper. :waytogo:

it get's my stamp of psychotic approval... :waytogo:

excessive amounts of labor appreciated by only the builder! :woot:

Thanks Paul. Really the toughest thing about this entire thing was there was no where to get a good measurement off of. Everything was kinda built just by eye and feel to see if it planed in.

I need to wait on that one. I think something might work out there when I have the hitch receiver come out. I need to get this thing hard mounted and do the "lay on your back and stare at it for awhile, thing". There is still a ton of work to do down there. Hitch, skid plate, gas tank mounting......

Wish I had your skills, that is extremely nice work Mike!

Thanks dude, but it really wasn't that hard or bad to do. Just as everyone that has bent and coped some tube, those little in between bastards take some time. Can't really get them in a notcher at that length, so you end up doing it all by hand. But, still to this day, I don't have a notcher. :doah: :haha:

You know, if you and Greg would pump the brakes on this crazy $hit, your trucks might be able to move themselves by now:whistle:

Dude, I read in a manual that this is how to do this stuff.....:dunno:

Now that you mention it tho, it might of been Greg's thread I was looking at instead. Damn, that Greg, I could have been done years ago.. :angry1:

Good to see ya around still. Can't wait to hear where your heading next. I hope it's Cali. Then we both can make fun of Dean and Eric's weather. :D :haha:

I plan on doing a little turkey day welding tomorrow, so hopefully I can get an update up. :waytogo:

Are you talking about the moo cow, or you? :dunno::D

And why does it look like your cow has been huffing silver spray paint? You guys bored up there already? Ya know, winter just started.

Glad to see this thing is still coming along. Looks great!

SuperDave, great for ya to stop by. :saweet: Are you in Cali, or Seatlle? Hard to tell from the FB pics.

Made a little progress. Too much crap in normal life kinda keeping me down from long garage times. Just can't get in to it.

I did weld up the rear tube bumper and moved on to another project, I should have done a long time ago. (forgot to take pics of bumper weldup) Imagine a tube bumper welded up...:thumb:

Way back in the beginning, the smart people had a little discussion about hard mounting the tub to the frame and cage. As you can see, I've pretty much been doing that, but never really got around to doing the actual body mounts. Before I can really go any farther on the rear bumper, I need to get all of the body mounts finalized.

So I worked on a way to replicate the originals, but this time in all metal. It looks like it will work throughout, with a couple tweaks along the way.

What do you guys think, as it looks like I'm the first little piglet to try this?......or get talked into this..:eek1: :haha:

Started with getting the engine cage in again. This gives me 2.5 inches for my body mounts on each side for the #1 mount.

Started by making four plates. Two with 1.75 holes and two with 1/2' holes.

and welded caps to the ends. These will get a 1/2 bolt hole.

and some stacked washers welded together.

Drilled some holes for a couple plug welds. I needed to down size the tube from 1.75 down to 1.5. This gave me the opportunity to use a 1.25 tube to go through the actual body mount bracket attached to the frame.

Cut the tube down to 2.25 and slid in the 1.5 tube.

Then I welded the 1.25 tube (3/4" tall) to the plate with the 1/2" hole. This slips through the body mount bracket hole and into the upper mount. I figure it should give it some stability from side to side racking.

It slips together something like this.

And mounts in here like this..

That's it. Only 8 more to go, if I get the stamp of approval. :D

Yep, everything is perfect as of right now. :pimp:

There wasn't a lot I could have done with the #1 position anyway with the A pillar connected to the slider and the firewall bolted to the engine cage.

I was thinking that the rest of them, Ill make a washer or two shorter, so I could shim them up if needed. At least have the option of moving it. :dunno:

you are a sick sick individual..............

I'm proud of ya!
