If by "work" you mean that it makes everyone's pants shorter.....then, yes I'd say it works. :pimp:

Sounds hella rowdy. Open header yes? Gotta love all the weird smells and smoke on a new motor startup as all the new paints burn off. :waytogo:

So I'm guessing this is a real-time update on what's happening in your garage right now? Once the smoke clears and your deal with all the "little stuff" that always needs attention on a new startup I'd love another video showing it just idling and maybe a couple of quick stabs of the throttle to hear the "anger"

Nice work Mike! :woot:
(that motor is finally sipping fuel after all these years!)

Great job Mike. So awesome to see your hard work paying off, must feel amazing. Definitely had to wipe some drool off my face.

Greg sent me a link to this vid and I must say it does sound good but I still can't understand why people insist on starting a new engine without mufflers on it so they can hear any noises in case there is a problem. :dunno:

Alright, it's running, good to hear! I hate how cameras rarely sound correct with open headers, it's always distorted it seems. Nice work.

If there was a problem it would be louder! :waytogo: Give the guy a break, he finally got to start his engine. I see your point, but sometimes you don't have everything you need to do it with exhaust, and who wants to wait? I have started several engines with open headers, you can still tell if everything seems right in my opinion. Race cars are always open headers, should they not start them in case something is wrong?

People with race cars usually have sponsors and don't have to worry about footing a bill for an engine repair should something go wrong. I know exactly how much this engine build cost since i'm the one who built it and while i don't know if he can or cannot afford to repair any damage that could have happened I know that he wouldn't want to have to repair any.

You must not know many racers if you think they usually don't have to foot the bill for engine repairs. And I realize you built the engine, so why are you worried something is wrong?

Just kidding, but I got you right? :waytogo:

Wow, the last three weeks have been insane. Between working strait through last weekend and crazy hours during the week I really didn't think that I was going to pull this off.

When it came down to getting short on time, I had to turn to Napa, instead of summit for the last things. I had my wishlist set up from the Fragola PDF. When I went to call them and put in an order, it was a 1k min. So I called one of their distributer and he had half of the stuff but no black covered steel hoses and such. Figured screw it at that point and bought a bunch of fuel line and went to town.

Still have a lot of loose ends that need to be taken care of, but in due time now. Just so stoked that it started.:woot:

Thanks Greg. I think that I did that engine proud. Exactly what it needed. You were right, I don't think it was 15 minutes after and I was texting you and a couple of other guys. I was really a mess of nerves and emotions and just couldn't get the damn upload done.

One thing that we noticed is the VC clearance. Everything looked good for clearance before, but we could hear a small tap. Nothing that was huge by any means or did any damage, just need to change it out before I give her the first rap.

I ordered a couple of VC risers from Ansen this morning and some longer ARP bolts for it. They will be here tomorrow and I'll throw them on tomorrow night. If all looks good there will be another vid tuesday night of wed morning. I can't wait to hear it once a bounce the throttle a couple of times.

game on indeed!

I sure wish that I said something cooler when I started it. I watched the vid later and was like REALLY...... Those are the words that you decided to use... :doah:

Thanks Man... What a great feeling :waytogo:

Y And I realize you built the engine, so why are you worried something is wrong?

I was thinking the same thing.... :D :haha:

And thanks Heath for all of the help. It wouldn't have started without ya...

I have more vid with the camera. I had it sitting up on a ladder the entire time. You guys just seen the phone vid. I'll take a look at those and if there not to boring and long, they will be posted up. Maybe the have better sound?? :dunno:

lol, it's all good man. beats the hell out of "woops"!

Interesting comment on the M/T valve cover clearance.... I thought for sure they would clear most rocker setups easily. Did you try a taller cover to confirm the ticking goes away?

It was a huge adrenaline rush to see that motor start and run. I was super-excited for you and it was obvious from your messages last night that you were like a kid at Christmas. Good stuff!

I thought for sure too. I haven't tried anything else yet. When I take them off tomorrow, I'll see if there are any marks. It was so faint, but you knew that it was there, type of thing.

Super excited ya say.....Ya'll are lucky I could even type. My hands were shaking I was so friggin out there. :screwy:

Has anyone played that first video hooked up to a stereo? I swear it's a lot different than listing from the laptop. Crank it up, it's well worth it... :saweet:

Here are a couple of other vids. Same stuff, just different.

The first is just priming the block. This is after we had oil to the heads and put on the VC's.

And the longer one with the camera.

mmmm....the youtube vid is still processing it says. Maybe later???
