funny true story!!..
I was riding in my friends truck one night several years ago..,he's driving..we go over a speed bump at the mall,and his muffler drops to the pavement..it was rotted halfway off for a long time, and noisy...he gets out of the truck,uses his floor mat as a glove,to grab and twist off the muffler the rest of the way off,and tosses it in the bed of the truck...we proceed to drive to my garage to get another muffler and install it..with "open headers"..
We got about 1/4 mile from where it fell off..to the main entrance of the mall,we are sitting at a traffic light,waiting for it to turn green....then I notice a cop car directly across from us at the intersection..oh-oh!...
..
Sure enough,as we take off from the light,the cop goes by the other way,and does an immediate "U" turn,and puts his light and siren on..and pulls us over..
The officer asks my friend for his licence and registration,then asks "why the loud pipes???..he tells him "muffler just fell off over there for crissakes!--its in the back of the truck"....the cop shines his light on the muffler lying in the bed...then reaches in and GRABS it,and yelps,and drops it back in the bed like a hot potato!!!...
...we were trying not to laugh,and the cop was very pissed!!..he says "well,I guess you weren't lying to me"...just after he said that,he starts ranting about how its illegal to drive without a muffler,etc...at the same moment,a group of about 20 guys on Harleys come blazing over the hill,and ROAR thru the intersection with loud straight pipes!!..drowned the cops voice right out..my friend cups his ear,and says loudly "WHAT????---I CANT HEAR YOU!!"....and after they all go by,he says "How come THEY dont have to have mufflers???--why do THEY get away with it????.....
The cop said I dunno,but I have to go chase them anyway...half of them just ran the red light,and nearly hit me!...get your P.O.S. truck out of here NOW!!!....so we left,and we laughed so hard we almost wet ourselves....
Same cop gave my friend a speeding ticket 2 weeks later when he was in his 62 Nova!...he got his revenge when he recognized him from the "muffler" incident--was going to give him a warning at first..then said "hey,wait a minite--aren't you the guy in the chevy truck I stopped a few weeks ago for having no muffler???".... .. OWNED!!!!!
