a ban on brush guards IN NY

Sounds like you boys need to start calling your state reps and raising hell . this law (like most others) is written way to vauge and leaves way to much to "officer Interpatation" they could say that Billet grilles or chrome tube grills are "beefing up the front " because there metal and not plastic. I'd start now and try to make sure this CRAP bill doesn't make it to law

Sometimes (actually far too often) some pea-brained state legislator will decide to sponsor or co-sponsor a piece of un-needed and asinine legislation for the most nonsensical of reasons.

Remember way back, years ago, whe nitrous injection was in the news? Street racing and all that. It was the freak of the week story on the local stations and in that horrid red rag they call our local newspaper. Well, some bozo here in this state decided they needed to outlaw the use of nitrous on our streets. Keep in mind that we don't have smog tests, and you can run a nitromethane-powered blown race hemi or a pair of blown V-12 aircraft engines in this state, if you can fit them in your car and put mufflers on them. Like that wouldn't cause any street racing trouble...

But some moron thought that banning nitrous injection would make sense, their fellow morons rubber-stamped it, and its been DMV law ever since.

On the other hand, they did just vote to have shall-issue CCW permits here starting on 1/1/2007 :waytogo: , so sometimes they do things that aren't too bad.

how can this apply to vechicles that lack a crumple zone....:rolleyes:
So true. It doesn't make sense.

Think this would be considered OK by the proposed legislation:

Thats not a brushguard, thats a weapon of mass distruction!!!!!! You could take on a Mack truck with that.:bow::bow:

I live in Rochester NY and honestly don't see very many brushguards at all. But on the other hand, having lived in 13 states, I have NEVER heard of so many pedestrians making the news by walking in front of a car. Why should someone who is obeying the law have to modify their truck because someone can't understand what the big red flashing hand means? Does it really matter if you get hit with a brush guard instead of a 5000lb truck? Either way it's gonna hurt.

I refer to my bumper as "The Chrome Horn" BEEP BEEP

When all else fails, Get up under 'em, Get 'em loose and Put 'em in the wall.

I love Oregon. I have run vehicles with 10" of lift, 4" of tire sticking out of the wheel wells, no mud flaps, and a missing windshield and never got stopped.

Corvallis Oregon is the land of the Pedestrian/Bicyclist. They just modified the laws with regard to pedestrians. It used to be that if a ped was anywhere on the road you had to wait until they completly cleared the street before you could proceed. NOW, they will let you drive on once the ped is at least two lanes away from you. WOW, thanks for being so lenient. I have almost rearended people, and I following with plenty of distance, because they see a ped and freak out and slam on the brakes. I am cautious, but I don't stop for peds who are out of a crosswalk, or just because they are waiting to cross. If you aren't smart enough to own a car, then you should have to make like Frogger if you want to cross traffic.

Just my little rant.

Well its not a Law yet, but i'm doing my research to vote against it. I'm a NY Resident, living in Washington. Any body else in NY not wanting it to go thru let your people know. This is why NY is so F**ked up, we let the City yuppies run our lives, and then we have no idea whats going on and get pulled over for a "brush guard" violation. SCREW THAT.

Don't think that NY is the only state that has those problems. I lived in Missouri, gotta be one of the most rural states in the country and do you know they don't allow concealed carry. It has been attempted many times but each time the liberal yuppies in KC and St. Louie out vote the rural masses and the bill won't pass into law. That also happens here in Oregon. There are 4 major population pockets and they are all liberalized, I think it's something they put in the water. Fortunatly our redneck constituency is alive and well and we manage the liberalocaracy to some degree.

As messed up as NY can be, I miss it.

Cops - Push bumpers

Nope (probably not) - most of the time the cop cars are exempt from a lot of those laws. Who's going to stop them and right the ticket???

well yea that was the idea... cops can have push bumpers meant for pushing cars and we cant have bush guards... o well

Funny that cops don't have to follow the rules. I had a cop pull me over for too loud of exsaust...he told me that you can't have any other exsaust than your truck comes with stock. I asked him if his car had the stock exsaust...that's different, he says. hmmmmm

I like the "justification" -

Somehow, I think that the only "crumple zone" that my Burb is the area directly in front of it ....

No kidding. But, afaik all our trucks have a crumple zone in the hoods at the hinges, so they don't sheer the bolts and come in through the windshield. I think thats about it.

ya in ny state the rules dont apply to the cops. we had the cell phone ban first and it was first for the gov officles and officers. do you know how many still talk on the phones in plane view of others.

Hate to say it, but there are a lot of laws that specifically exclude police and police cars. :deal:

Ever tried a citizens arrest on a cop!!
Let me know when you try, I'd pay to see that video.
