A better way to remove the hardtop

Any body using a lift system that does not require holes and attachment points sticking out on top?

Sure, lots of us have. I used to put eye bolts in 4 of the bedrail holes in the topper and run ratchet straps from those to the eye bolts in the garage ceiling. You'll find lots of setups on here that don't require any topper modifications.

sounds like you would just lift your whole back end up, but then again i've never taken my top off so I wouldn't know.

First you take all of the hardtop bolts out. Then you lift it a little from inside the truck and slip pieces of 2x4 between the bedrails and the topper. Then you put eyebolts in some of the open holes in the topper.

I kinda went another route. I had a 79 stepsid3e that was almost exactly the same height as my blazer. I'd simply unbolt it and walk it (on my back) to the bed of the stepside and set it on the 1x6's

Of course i don't have the truck anymore so i haven't taken my top off since. Helps that the blazers broke and there is no need to take the top of anymore :D

Huh. xI was led to believe it took at least two big stepladders, a 4" sq x 16' plank, a stack of pallets, and half a weekend.... oh, wait, which kind of hardtop are you talking about?

Minor hijack here - the Jimmy in my post #26 above, minus its camper, is now on Craigslist in Seattle. Assuming it still has the RPO tag in the glove box with the "16T5 Chalet Camper Conver" line, it's one rare Jimmy, if that counts for anything.....
