I started messing with my non working a/c and jumpered the low pressure switch to get the compressor running to see if it got cold at all. It ran making a bit of a rattle and after around 2 minutes it came to a belt screeching halt and teh compressor siezed up. There is no evidence of oil leakage BTW,but is this a result of running it with no freon in the system or was it doomed due to years of non use?

Yeah, it's dead. And you just might have killed all other components if you ever plan on fixing it. When a compressor dies like that it usually sents bits of debris through the system.

Oh well, no air,no radio....less weight. After seeing rebuilt compressor prices I removed all of it anyhow, less weight so maybe I`ll get 9mpg now he he,:D

The compressor is lubed by oil carried through the system by refrigerant. No refrigerant, no oil. Plus, they usually leak out together, so there might not have been much oil in there anyway.

If you plan to repair the A/C system, clean out all of the lines, and especially the condensor.
