The A/C on my 79 K5 hasn't blown cold air since it was given to me. I realize there are a number of things that could be wrong with it, but honestly I'm more of a windows down kind of a guy. So I'm planning on removing the whole set up. I do, however want to keep my heater. This appears to be a pretty straight forward thing to do.
Anyone see any problems I may come across?

Not really. if you remove the firewall side of the A/c box that houses the evaporator, you'll need to fab a cover between the fan and the heater core thats inside the dash. no biggie really.
The "squirrel cage" pulls air from the round hole inside and blows it towards the engine, just use the remnants of the box you removed or get a "heater only" piece.
Enjoy changing #6 and #8 plugs easily:D

Thanks for the reply. Thats about what i was thinking, didnt see any issues other than the a/c box. I will leave the box in place for now untill I make something to correct it. Should have some extra a/c parts laying around soon. but at least ill just be tripping over them inside of the shed instead of under the hood.

See if you can find a Non/AC heater box. They are not hard to find. Since most Custom Deluxe trucks didn't come with AC. Get the cab controls while you're at it and make it like it was never there. I know where atleast 15 Non/AC trucks are sitting if you can't find one local, Let me know and I'll be glad to help.

theres a few local yards around here where i should be able to find something. the jimmy ive been picking parts off of down in oakdale might have one left too... just gotta find the time to get down there. maybe grab the doors while i'm at it

Do i need to keep any of these wires?

Are the wires going into the a/c box under the hood for the a/c only or do they control heater functions as well?
I took some pics, but the file size is to big for me to upload. if need be i can take some different pics tomorrow
