These cold Floridian mornings (Lmao) had got me wanting remote start in the Blazer. I hopped on eBay and purchased an Avital 4103 Remote Start/Keyless Entry System. Not knowing how it would function until after installation, at $45 I had nothing to lose. Took quite a while to probe the right wires and get everything routed the way I wanted. But I got it done, so here's a write up.

The wire connections are as follows:

Avital heavy gauge 6 pin harness:
*Connections made at main column harness adjacent fuse block.
*Used self-fusing insulating tape to protect my connections where wires were tapped.
Pink to Pink - Primary Ignition
Purple to Purple - Starter
Orange to Orange - A/C Heater
Red to fuse block constant - Power
Pink/White to Brown - Acc. Radio

*Disregard wire colors here, I made a sub harness.

Avital 9 pin harness:
White to Black at light switch - Parking Lights
Black to Ground
Brown to Black at main column harness - Horn

Avital 5 pin harness:
Black/White to Ground - Neutral Saftey
Purple/White to White at coil - Tach
Brown to White at Brake light switch - Safety shutdown

Avital 3 pin harness:
Blue to Blue/Black at kick panel harness - Unlock
Green to Black at kick panel harness - Lock

*I had to make a relay module (2 Bosch type relays) to convert supplied negative feed from brain to a useable positive feed that the locks require.

I mounted the Control module in the space between kick panel and parking brake assembly.

These connections are the only wires required to make Remote Start/Keyless Entry function, including horn and parking light confirmation.

Feel free to ask questions about connection locations etc.

PS my bluetick coonhound pup wanted to help!

How do you like the system?

I am using an audiovox / presitge setup from 2009 ish....

It works awesome. Couldn't imagine my truck without it.

I have one of the extra channels setup to a 1min timer to turn the headlights on.

It works quite well. Only adjustment I had to make was program the starter to run longer for cold mornings. It has a ton of features that I need to look into programming, Good idea with the headlights. I was impressed with the price and how well it works. I've got everything hard wired/soldered where I tapped into factory harness like the heavy gauge connections. That way if the brain ever quits I can just plug in a new brain.

Yours doesn't recognize tach signal when it starts? Mine cranks until it knows it fires. Never fails to start

I guess mines not that smart. Only when it is really cold, starter will run for 2 seconds then shutoff, then attempt again and it fires right up. I've got the tach wired in and I've relearned the signal multiple times. Guess its just a quirk of this system.

For you guys with the aftermarket remote start... What happens if you get in the truck, insert key, and turn (as in forgot motor is running)?

Most have an antigrind feature, if you attempt to start while running it won't engage starter.

Mine definitely does not. It will grind the starter.

Luckily, with a healthy exhaust.....ive only done that a few times. :doah:

Thanks. Definitely getting one of those for my 89 sub. Ive never been a big fan of car alarms but if comes with the keyless entry and remote start. I'll take it. With 3 small kids now. .. keyless entry will make it easier to load the kids up.

Sensitivity is adjustable, so you should be able to set it so its almost impossible to set off.

Love mine.
