Yesterday morning I got up nice and early and before leaving for work I did a one man install of the hood and loaded up some misc. tools and drove the K5 into town to get it inspected. Presently it has a non-highway title.
On the way I stopped and filled the gas tank up for the first time.
Before stopping for gas I shut the K5 off while driving down the road and what do you know, it wouldn't start. So I flipped it into 3rd gear and let the clutch out to get it running again.
Stopped at an O'Reilly's and they confirmed that the alternator was charging. Hmm, didn't want to risk shutting the truck off at the inspection place so I stopped by work and recruited a co-worker to ride with me to the inspection place and sit in the K5 while I went inside to get the process going.
The K5 passed the inspection without incident, but that's not saying much, all the inspector did was look at the Vin on the door jam and on the frame. No inspection of the lights, turn signals, horn . . . or the puddle of gas that was dripping from my gas tank
About 2 years ago when I started trying to get the K5 driveable I took the tank and had it cleaned and sealed. Well, looks like they did the cleaning part but failed miserably on sealing it - there are at least 3 nice pinhole leaks and at least one other seeping leak. Grrr

Called the place that did the job and what do you know, number no longer in service.
So I drive home rather than to my office and spend the next hour or so siphoning gas so I wasn't wasting $2.59 per gallon gas.
Later that evening I got the rest of the gas out and pulled the tank. It is now at a more reputable shop getting repaired.
Before I pulled the tank I got the K5 good and warm in the shop and turned the motor off and it fired up each time. Was running a little rough so I messed with the timing a little and got it smoothed out and it starts easier now.
Have to keep an eye on this starter issue.
Took a coupel pics of the K5 with the hood back on (has been off for a year) but of course I forgot the camera so no pics today
