A little progress

Good deal. I would just used a hose in the first place on that tank. Wish I could had one like that when I did mine. I have a 3 onch body lift so I had a hair of wiggle room on my tank.

Partial retraction - still having a little problem starting once hot - I'll get this figured out sooner or later!

hmmmmm, can't remember if you said you did the Ford silly mod already or not?
Is the block grounded to the frame??
When the hotstart issue occurs do you get a buzzz? A click? Or nothing?

Haven't done the remote selonoid on this one yet - have it on the K20. This is a new starter but I'm thinking the remote selonoid will fix the problem. When it's hot, it will crank 3-4 times slower and slower than stop. But what is odd, hit it again and most of the time it will crank over faster and then start. It's very odd.

Drove my two girls to school this morning and then headed over to get my antique tag registered - yep - I'm not legally driving the streets!

Look at that sweet 14 bolt - its Detroit Locker is alot more noticeable than the factory No-Spin (also a Detroit Locker) in my K20.

Had to snap some shots of the K5 outside since most of my shots have been from inside the shop.

The seat covers are off a vehicle that my dad has - he hated them and was going to get rid of the. I noticed the shape was pretty close and tried them out and they work pretty good. Not necessarily what I would have chosen, but sure beats sitting on ripped up seats!

Got into the secondaries yesterday and a couple times today - really bogs down and sputters so something needs to be adjusted. Sure drives and runs well when the secondaries are shut.

I'm totally digging driving this K5! On the way to work in the opposite lanes of traffic another first gen K5 drove by - hardly ever see them around here so I thought that was especially cool!

Sure sounds like you need the remote silly.
See with a "live" batt cable at your starter the atoms in the cable are 'awake' and moving around (just no current yet)..add heat and the resistance starts to climb.
Now with a 'dead' cable at your starter the atoms are 'sleeping' so the heat doesn't affect them and when you turn the key and BAM! Freash shot of 12v to your starter...just like when it's cold :D

Kind of a silly analagie...oh well it's been almost 20years sence I went to electronics school so I have forgotten just about everything but my point is valid...

You should bring that 1st Gen to the local Chevy dealership and tell them that you have 'sleepy atoms'.... :haha:

Your truck doesn't need a Ford solenoid, it needs a hot cup of Burt's famous "campground coffee"!!! :waytogo: That will wake up even the sleepiest of atoms.

:usaflag:

Burt - I'll more than likely add a remote solenoid - it's a cheap mod and given how the starter is acting I think you are right.

I'm happy to report my 10 year old daughter was a little bummed this morning when we didn't take the K5 to drop her off at school  Her exact words were, "We're not taking the Blazer today?" She knows how to make her daddy smile!

So Burt makes some strong coffee? Strong coffee around a campfire - doesn't get much better than that!

hehheehe
yup coffee & bacon :D Someone has to take care of Greg :haha: ofcoarse now he lives on the East coast he is all on his own finding coffee & bacon...hehhee
Hey YJ ~ Sounds like your babygirl is gonna need a wheeler of her own someday :wink1:
This year at Pismo (thanksgiving) my 10yrold daughter got to drive my K5 for the first time..I stoped out in the middle of the dunes and she jumped into the drivers seat "Dad, I wana drive!"...OK so I got her going in a big circle at first and then "I wana go up that hill" :eek1: hmmm OK...she made it up the hill hahaha....needless to say it was a blast watching her drive at only 10 hehehe

That's too cool - I've let my 12 year old daughter drive a vehicle with me right next to her down our drive a few times - they sure get excited doing that. I'm pretty fortunate with my girls, my 12 year old will even go to car shows with me during the summer and we go out to the drag strip once a year.

Hey YJ,If you need a new set of battery cables I can make a set up if you want,no charge.

Since I changed over to my 2 gauge cables and remote solenoid never had any hot start issue's.

Here's what I run.

The copper end terminals are soldered and crimped to ensure good connectivity.

I'd just need the measurements, how long you'd want them and the type of ends you'd need.

Let me know.

That is awful nice of you BobK - I just might take you up on that - you do such nice clean work I'd be proud to have a set of custom battery cables from you on my rig. I'm gonna keep an eye on the hot start issue as it is intermitten at this point, but I'm sure I will go that route after I get a few other things addressed.

Drove the K5 today and nothing like driving and seeing that gas gauge needle drop - thirsty K5!

I'm gonna have to figure out why the motor is bogging down when I get on it - tuning is something I have no experience with so I might try to find someone local to take over that job.

My mind is thinking about a custom soft top - to bad my wallet says that really needs to wait for a little project funds rebuilding. Maybe STC will come back to life by the time I'm ready.
