A new truggy is born...

before.jpg

Maybe I'm just out of the loop on whats cool /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif, but why hack that thing like that? I like the way it looked in that pic. From that pic it looks like that thing doesn't even have any dents in it? What necesitated the narrowed rear? Did you always have that in mind or did the "extra" sheetmetal limit your capabilities? I don't get it.
And now you won't be able to use that square tube rear bumper, which I really like.

I just don't understand the whole narrowed, boatside thing. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Alittle of both. I went on a trip over the Rubicon with a couple friends and thier rigs, with the exception of Zakk's rig, all of them were trail only, trailered rigs. Buggy/truggy type rigs. 73K5Tony510 on here was one, and BayAreaWheeler on PBB in his rig Mad Max. After seeing what they could do, where they could go and fit in there rigs, and the ease with witch they did it, my plans totally changed. When I left for the trip, my truck was 3/4 ton with 38's. I thought I was content with it that way. Within a couple months of getting back, it was 1 ton on 42's. You're right, it didn't have any dents in it. No rust either. But with my driving style and the type of wheeling I want to do, I would have totally thrashed the body anyway. For the most part, I've wanted it to be like this since I got it. As far as the bumper I made....I like it too. But, lol, I made that before the 'Con trip. /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif It's already been sold to a club member, it'll look good on his truck. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

yea im with u, but eh, w/e floats ur boat, but me personaly i would find a rusted truck for that, rust free k5's are getting to rare..

I suppose if you live in New York, rust free trucks would be tough to find. Not so difficult out here. Besides, are you guys into the same kinda wheeling/crawlin as I am? I doubt it considering your opinions on my truck. S'all good though...Like you said dude, To each his own. /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif

Watch them eyes Joe, you only got one set. I've had arc burn (eyes and skin) pretty bad before and it sucks.

Like I said in Jason's thread, there is always someone going to complain when a clean (or even nearly clean) truck gets cut up. I bought my M1008 because the price was right to get me all the drive train pieces I wanted/needed. The only thing missing was a front locker, and that's not something your likely to find in a "starter". Like you, my first plans were pretty tame for the most part, never imagined I would wind up where I'm at (or where I'm going). I originally was planning on taking the M1008 and cutting down the frame to SWB size, cutting off the top and grafting on a 73-5 windshield, and welding the bed into the back of the cab. Basically, a K30 pickup based open K5 with a soft top was my plan. But then things started to change… /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif You know the rest... /forums/images/graemlins/hack.gif

Yeah...I've been doin this kinda stuff for goin on 10+ years..I should know better. Knowing that was almost worse than the pain from the arc flash. Almost. /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

truggys, boatsiding, and making fullsizes smaller seems to be a west coast only thing.
I turned myperfectly good truck into a full on 4 seat truggy after not fitting through an obstacle down here. I wouldnt want to own an underpowered jeep with small ass drivetrain and upgrade from there so this is the route I went as many others do.

I love the way your (bobtailed and narrowed blaze) is looking /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif
now to really impress us west coasters and piss the eastern boys off. take that top and cut it down to fit your sides so you can still use your hard top /forums/images/graemlins/hack.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

I was thinking the same thing. That would be awsome!!

I still want to see someone cut it down the middle and section 6" to 1' out of the thing and weld it back together /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

If I can ever get him to sell this little jewel, I plan on running just that /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I think I'm still first in line if it ever sells...

notice the rocker panel is gone, the rockers are a rectangular tube that is raised alot, then the remaining gap is just plated, giving a "boat sode" look because of the angle.

people give some wierd looks, I will be doing it to the blue blazer soon so a right up will be around soon, just need some time

Looks good man!

I see you took a little bit different approach then I did. I was forced into certain areas as I do not have a welder at home. Looks like you were able to get the rear much more narrower by cutting the bedsides some. Nice work. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Shawn, did boat siding it move the floor up too? Is there an advantage to doing that? Thanks for the pic, your rig rocks!
